Safe baby monitor for toddler?

DS sleeps reasonably well in his little toddler bed at the foot of my bed. I want to move him into his own room but I’m worried I won’t hear him cry if he wakes up. My town house has one bedroom per floor - so I won’t be just next door, I’ll be on a different floor. I’m worried about using a baby monitor because he can get out of bed and it’s unsafe to have cables he could strangle himself with.

Any suggestions? Is it possible to get a monitor with no cables?

Our camera is on top of the wardrobe with the cable running down the back.

To those saying open the door a crack, that overcomes the cable danger but creates a fire danger. I think you’re advised to keep door shut and all the more so in a townhouse (extra fire issues, will all be weighted fire doors).

Tbh it's going to be about 10 months until he demands it's open because the monsters/scary thing/Teddy/god knows what is scaring him and he needs it open a crack.

Is he your only child?

I'v never used a baby monitor with any of mine but the town house does pose some issues. I'm with you on not leaving a cable in his room, children do tend to put things around their necks unaware of the dangers. I'd get one without a cable but also teach him a word that he's to shout if he needs any help.

We use the baby monitor app with an iPad paired to an iPhone. One is the baby station and one is the parent station.
But we live in a flat so only use it if I go to the neighbours or in the evenings in a hotel. Don't know if it's practical to use every day.

OP I apologise for my comment yesterday - reading it back now I realise it came across badly. I just never considered that cables would still be an issue at the age you were talking about, and thought this was an unnecessary worry, but clearly all children are different and you know your child best. I should not have posted in haste, sorry.

Others PPs have been far more helpful and given some great suggestions for ways to get round this issue.

Thanks everyone. The Motorola monitor looks good because it plugs directly into the socket and has no cables.
