Wow what a spectacularly unkind episode of love island that was!

I’m supposed they even aired that tbh, the ad breaks with the number of them Samaritan with #bekind

Really highlighted the way they were all set up to say nasty things about each other

Who’s the most lazy, fake, vain etc
And why

Really suprised they aired that

Totally agree @LuluJakey1.

It was a weird one, I missed the beginning so I must have missed the tribute to CF. It's shocking that she's gone but I think that is partly due to her media persona. I admit I am not comfortable with people calling the DV charges a 'show trial' and the constant references to BF not supporting the prosecution. But yes if you want to paint it in the guise of it being the media's fault it was an odd challenge to air.

The really good thing about Love Island is that nobody has to watch it

Yea and the even better thing about Love Island IS watching it!

Foslady · 18/02/2020 07:17

To say it’s called Love Island there appears to be a distinct lack of love.....

ElderAve · 18/02/2020 07:34

I've never watched it, never even seen a clip. TBH I don't really know what it is. I know that millions do watch it though. And there's your problem. If people didn't watch it, it wouldn't be made.

This whole kindness thing, what about the producers of Love Island? They've produced a hugely successful show that the public loves. Why be so unkind to them for being good at what they do?

I just Googled, 4.8m watched the opening episode this year. 4.8m!!

There was an episode of South Park years ago - "Britney's New Look" - about driving Brtiney Spears (or any beautiful young girl) to her death in order to ensure a bountiful harvest. Inspired and fucking accurate to this day.

4.8 million people who actively tune in to watch people being vile to each other and make each other feel shit? These will be the same 4.8 million posting "be kind" bollocks all over their SM.

Bluntness100 · 18/02/2020 08:13

The shows format has ways been the same. Caroline flack loved the show and was very proud of it.

The sad events that happened were not because of the show. People really need to try to understand that.

If you don’t know what you’re talking about it’s usually best to say nothing

@TheVanguardSix
Give them bread and circuses about sums it all up.

Strictly is reality and yet Mumsnetters love that. Is it because it’s on the BBC? Is that a different class of reality?

InvisibleToEveryone · 18/02/2020 11:10

I think strictly is a completely different thing, LI is playing with people's minds and emotions.

They are all essentially youngsters, having a televised orgy, (that makes me sound really old, I'm not)
The aim of LI is to shag around to win money and become instantly famous.

Strictly is grown adults dancing.....

And anyone who believes "reality TV " is true real life unfolding naturally, needs to give their heads a wobble, it's scripted badly to within an inch.

This.

LI has always been trashy, easy to watch. I love it because its ridiculous. They can't change the format just because CF died. Then it wouldn't be LI.

3 of the 4 deaths 'linked' to LI were very very tenuous links. But its easy to blame LI rather than the actual problem - social media and the press.

GabsAlot · 18/02/2020 12:36

Its a crap program but really nothing to do with her death

should we cancel all shows when a presenter dies
