Dull question. Where do you keep your dirty wash basket?

I’ve just had new wardrobes fitted and being bigger than what I had before, means I’ve lost the space I previously kept my basket.
I don’t know where to put it now! No room in the bathroom. I’m at a loss!
What are your solutions?

Wait you have a junk/spare room.....erm how about in there Grin

Icecreamdiva · 18/02/2020 08:48

It’s in a corner of the upstairs hall. It’s a big hall so it doesn’t intrude. It’s ancient, a big lidded G Plan teak jobbie bought when such things were fashionable. This thread has made me realise how hideous it is and I will be looking for something more attractive immediately.

hannabarbera · 18/02/2020 08:51

Don’t have one. Never have. We take the dirty clothes to the washing machine and switch it on when its full. Kids have learnt that if its not in the wash it wont get cleaned 🌚

Damntheman · 18/02/2020 08:58

I have 2 big baskets in the bathroom, one for colours and one for whites, then I have a small tub for wool (Norwegian winters y'all) and one small tub for towels/cloths. All in the bathroom I'm afraid OP, next to the washing machine!

CherryPavlova · 18/02/2020 09:05

In the laundry by the washing machine. Everything is bought down each morning and.my husband puts it on after he's back from his run.

Fallulah · 18/02/2020 09:09

Corner of the bedroom but I wish there was room in the bathroom. I dream of a utility room!
Confused by people who just wash everything together - surely your whites start to grey after a while?

Rainallnight · 18/02/2020 09:11

Wow @smeerf, I am jealous!

CakeandCoffeeQueen · 18/02/2020 10:29

We have a white and coloured one in our bedroom and everyone put in there.

I have a friend who keeps hers in bottom of her wardrobe which is neat.

MermaidPants · 18/02/2020 10:55

IKEA kallax with four cubes (whites, darks, colours, delicates) in our bedroom. Wicker basket on the landing for towels/sheets/cloths etc. Baby has his own basket in his room. I realise this doesn't help as you said you have no space in your room or on the landing..!

Washing gets sorted as it's taken off so no double handling.

Those of you that bung straight in the machine and wash all together - what do you do with towels and sheets? Or so they get washed at 40 too with everything else?

TheChosenTwo · 18/02/2020 11:01

We built one on the end of our wardrobe. The royal ‘we’ obviously, dh did it!
The dds have a wash basket each up on their landing but they have bedrooms on the loft floor that no one else ever goes to other than their friends so I’m not fussed what that looks like Grin

Bluesheep8 · 18/02/2020 11:01

In the spare bedroom

FruityWidow · 18/02/2020 11:03

Ikea big blue bag on the hook of the bedroom door.

fartyface · 18/02/2020 13:58

I couldnt be bothered to gather it up, sort it into different boxes, keep checking the boxes, choose one to empty and then wash it. it is also quite high up so hard to delegate to children.

if you have one basket (or pile) then everyone shoves their stuff there, and adult takes it downstairs on wash day. Empties it out next to the machine and pick what you are washing. then do the second/third wash etc.

Washing done. move on. :)

smeerf · 18/02/2020 14:39

I suppose my method only saves time if a) you sort your laundry by colour and b) you generate most of your laundry in one place.

In our case, we're night time bath people (candles and glass of wine optional) so 90% of laundry comes from the bathroom and I wear a hell of a lot of black, so my washes would be so dingy if I bunged them all in together.

OP, where do your dirty clothes appear in your house? And then how close can you get the basket? In my old place we used a 4x2 Kallax with those fabric baskets in the hallway between the bathroom and bedrooms (like PP have suggested).

fartyface · 18/02/2020 14:52

agree - with b) in particular

WhatHaveIFound · 18/02/2020 14:57

We have two in our bedroom (darks & lights) plus one in each of the kids rooms. They have to empty/sort theirs into ours on Friday evenings for weekend washing.

catinb0oots · 18/02/2020 14:58

In the airing cupboard

mathanxiety · 18/02/2020 15:04

In the bathroom. I have a tall one with handles at the top. It doesn't take up floor space.

There's just me and DD4 at home now. When I had a house full of kids I had one in each bedroom/ closet.

MsChatterbox · 18/02/2020 15:04

Mine is in my wardrobe and it has 3 sections for light, dark and colours.

Icecreamdiva · 18/02/2020 15:32

This thread has sent me down an Internet wormhole of trying to track down a beautiful, decorated blanket chest to replace our current ugly, teak laundry box. I’ve lost most of the day.

thistimeisshort · 18/02/2020 15:54

We've had it in numerous places in various houses so one may help you!

Bathroom (didn't like this, seemed like clutter)

In garage (where washing machine was). Just took washing down every night/morning. Was actually fine and meant I didn't forget to bring washing down for a week, it was just there!

On the landing, ideal for everyone, in middle of all bedrooms.

Now it's in the spare room which we use as a wardrobe.

Yogawoogie · 18/02/2020 15:57

One on the landing and one in the utility room.

QuestionableMouse · 18/02/2020 16:13

One in the bathroom under the sink and a folding one in the bedroom.

saraclara · 18/02/2020 16:17

Mine is an attractive wooden 'lattice' style with a lid, and in my bedroom. When the family were still living here, I had one of those light/dark separating ones on the landing for the Dc to put their stuff in as well.

Atelopus · 18/02/2020 16:38

We've got four big washing/mesh bags (whites/lights/brights/darks) hanging in the under-stairs cupboard (from hooks on the back of the door).

Our clothes/towels get sorted into there at least daily from the open small basket just outside our bedroom (the idea is if there is anything in it when you go downstairs you take it with you). Bed linen goes straight into washing machine by the bed load. Teenage DC have a larger basket/bag in their room and they empty and sort that about twice a week.

In addition we have wire baskets hanging in the (small - too small to take our other laundry too) utility room for ecloths and tea towels. I do several white and darks washes a week and approx one lights, one brights, one tea towel and one ecloth wash a week - no set days/time just when it is clear we have enough for a load.
