Domestic hot water, minimum temperature?

Is there a minimum temperature for domestic hot water? We are struggling to get hot water above 40° and to do the washing up I have to boil the kettle to get a bowl of decent temp water. I know water needs to be above 60° to kill off legionella but does that apply to a combi boiler?

I’m sorry I don’t have any answer for you but hopefully someone else will see. Is your boiler not working or something that it’s only getting to 40c?

And I know I’m being rude but I’m going to add my own question to this thread in hope someone with knowledge of domestic water can help us both out (and bump your thread!) .....
I had my boiler serviced recently and they turned it up to 60c mentioning legionella. That was the first time I’d heard that. Our water is now roasting and the kids can’t wash their hands in fresh running warm water after the bathroom etc and we can’t switch to mix taps. Does anyone know if it really needs to be that high?

We have a dial on our boiler that changes the water temp. If it is a combo boiler are you running the hot tap slowly? The faster you run it the less chance it has to heat as it passes through the boiler. I’m sure the recommended temp is 55 but will google.

Google says 60. But legionella starts to die at temps above 50.

Yup, tried running tap at all different speeds makes no difference. The thing for setting the water temp is as high as it can go.

Combo boilers are safer as no stores water. Main growth is 20-45c. There is a scald risk over 44c. Temperature isn't only control

Legionella needs:
-temp in system between 20-45 in parts of system.
-deposits to support bacterial growth (rust, sludge, film),
-water droplets produced and then distributed ie shower,
-water stored/ recirculated.

So just clean system occasionally Inc shower heads (esp hard water areas as scale) and don't allow stagnant water ( needs 7-10 days)... So taps that are regularly ran are OK.

Oh thank you @happytoday73. I’ll have a look over that. I’d never heard of it before and have never ever had boiler set so high but the man servicing was very insistent about it and got me worried. I have a 15yr old boiler all taps used frequently.

@bloodywhitecat you don’t have a boiler contract or anything do you that you could call to look at your system. It must be so frustrating not having proper hot water.
