Hi there,

I’m just looking for a little perspective on how serious are possible data protection breech is please, if anybody knows.

Basically, I booked tickets for an event for me and my young children to attend in a public park in our city. I received a Facebook private message from the organisation I booked the event through (who’s form I entered a lot a personal info into) And it was from a volunteer at the park, who had access to my booking information and sent me a message telling me that myself and my children must stay away from the event and the park. I have never met this woman before but it transpires that she, many years ago, had a brief playing with my husband’s friend and subsequently harassed him for several years later. There is a bit more background to it than this but my husband has only met this woman once many years ago, and has no contact since then, and I’ve never met before in my life. I understand she has mental health problems and for some reason is targeting myself and my children.

That is just to give a bit of background but what I’m really asking is has my data Been abused here? I have contacted the police and They are happy to give her a warning (another incident and it will be harassment) and I have contacted the charity and received a very unsatisfactory response that did not answer any of my questions about my data and what exactly this person has access to. I sent another strongly worded letter to the charity but not had a response.

Should I be pursuing this legally in terms of a civil matter in that this charity has allowed my data to be abused?

Thanks for your help :)

Yes, this is a breach. You can report this directly to the Information Commissioner’s Office as it’s a malicious use of personal data.

Be warned there’s quite a backlog with complaints at the moment!
