What do you think about, before you go to sleep?

Just what the title says really!

Do you worry? Think about work/kids/life?

Or do you day dream? Fantasise about events/people/your possible future?

Everything that has ever happened to me, might happen or won’t happen ever in my whole life.... that’s why it takes me hours to Get to sleep every night Confused As soon as I lie down my mind switches on not off!

Well, by the time I've listened to the late news on r.4, followed by Sailing By, I'm ready to close my eyes, the perfect ending to the daySmile

MyNewBearTotoro · 17/02/2020 14:30

Sometimes I can’t stop worrying about stuff but those are the occasions where I tend to be unable to sleep. When I’m properly relax I tend to make up stories in my head, not fantasies as such because they’re not necessarily things I would want to happen or they’re not always about me. Sometimes I make up stories where I’m a teen again or I put myself in TV shows or make up stories about the characters without me. I’ll continue the stories usually over several nights and sometimes in the mornings when I’m still half asleep or if I’m able to have a lie-in.

ringletsandtwiglets · 17/02/2020 15:43

Sometimes I 'rehearse' things that are happening the next day, if there's something big I have to do.

Most of the time, though, I daydream about fantastical things that will never happen in real life. The most recent was accidentally meeting Jake Gyllenhaal, having him fall madly in love with me, and ended with us married with lots of beautiful babies... Blush

I'm also losing weight, so I sometimes idly wonder what life will be like when I get to my goal.

ExtraFox18 · 17/02/2020 15:46

I worry about my little boy with asd and how he will survive in adulthood and how my daughter will manage if she feels pressure to care for him. I think about everything I have done wrong in my life.

peachgreen · 17/02/2020 15:47

I decorate my fantasy house a lot, and spend many fantasy lottery wins. And I think about whatever book I'm reading. I used to do the whole romantic fantasy thing but I don't now that I've met DH - it doesn't do it for me any more!

I do this^ I either interior design my lottery house or design the garden. Rarely even finish a room before I'm in the land of nod. Stops me thinking about any real life worries which are not conducive to getting to sleep.

MysweetAudrina · 17/02/2020 15:51

I go back over my day and think of 10 things that made me happy, it might have been a nice lunchtime sandwich or a kind word from someone.

ItsAHardKn0ckLife1 · 17/02/2020 15:54

I often think about every occasion that I’ve ever embarrassed myself Confused
Or when my health anxiety is heightened I’ll think about stuff related to that (I do try not to).
To help put me in a more positive frame of mind I force myself to think about the first few months of my relationship with DH, that’s always my happy place Smile

SymphonyofShadows · 17/02/2020 15:57

I fantasy decorate too. Not houses but turning a normal van into a camper, or turning a garage into a secret tiny home. I’m fascinated by small space living but I could never do it.

RedLipsAndRosyCheeks · 17/02/2020 15:57

I do the fantasy homes and gardens too. I love it!

kitk · 17/02/2020 15:59

Everything that is worrying me!

Cookit · 17/02/2020 15:59

Gosh, nothing much. Sometimes I wake up too early and think a lot about things that are worrying me but generally when going to sleep I’m tired and have made the decision that I’m now going to go to sleep (and almost instantly do!).

tisonlymeagain · 17/02/2020 16:01

I am a day dreamer, fantasising about the future.

lettersbyowl · 17/02/2020 16:01

@peachgreen I do this loads too, especially good when you're really stressed as it clears your anxieties ready for sleep!!

TwoHeadedYellowBelliedHoleDig · 17/02/2020 16:03

I indulge my maladaptive day dreaming.
