How much can your cleaner do...

In three hours?

I'm looking to get a cleaner for the first time. I have a normal sized 4 bed house, one family bathroom, an en-suite and downstairs toilet. House is tidy so no clutter to clear up, I just can't keep on top of all the cleaning with an 18m old and a three year old who takes a huge amount of care due to autism.

I don't know what to expect - I'm just looking for someone to hoover and dust through, mop the hard floors, clean the bathrooms and kitchen. Should this be do-able in 3 hours?

I've been quoted £15 an hour - does this seem reasonable?

im sat waiting for my cleaner to arrive....she does 3 hours a fortnight and does 2 bathrooms and a downstairs loo, hall,2 landings, stairs large kitchen diner and lounge....no bedrooms as i have rent paying kids so they do their own

no clutter.....i tidy before she comes and i pay £12.50 and hour

she brings all her own cleaning stuff (from poland so it smells different and seems really good stuff) and her own vacuum.

she's fabulous......she is obsessed with the bathrooms and spends ages even though they are never too bad.

3 hours a week at £15 an hour. That is Agency price and she is worth every penny. Sometimes I tell her to leave one job if something else needs more and she is very obliging, I provide my own cleaning equipment. She does not do ironing or windows.

Our house is the same and it takes 3.5. But they usually finish before then so I'd say 3 hours is what we end up getting.

Gosh I hadn't even thought about ironing and windows! I have a window cleaner who comes once a month and I mange to stay on top of my ironing (I actually find it quite peaceful doing it while the children are in bed, saddo!) so that's covered.

£15 an hour includes them bringing all of their own cleaning stuff. Sounds like it's about average then. It's a local company, rather than an individual.

Same house set up here OP. 3 hours every two weeks gets two bathrooms and a downstairs loo fully cleaned, kitchen fully cleaned, entire ground floor hoovered and mopped (wooden/tiled floors), sofas (in two reception rooms) hoovered and cushions re-plumped (love this when I come home) and dusting done, though not always entirely.

I gave her a list of things that were important and a list of things that could be done if time allowed, or every other visit (hence the dusting now always done), or not at all if she didn't have time. We have one room that we say not to bother in (box room/study) because it's generally a tip and I can't be arsed to tidy it before she comes.

I've seen her when she's finished and she's normally a sweaty mess so she's working bloody hard during that time to do what she does.

I do interim "cleans" in between visits but very minimal really as we don't have children only my DP messing up the kitchen

Oh and we pay £40 for 3 hours, but provide the cleaning materials and equipment and just buy what she asks for (we have a notebook to communicate as we're not in when she comes)

Definitely doable in 3 hours. I’m a cleaner, I did exactly the same as your house today plus stripped and remade a double bed, in 2 hours. Very tidy house though- no moving anything required from me. I charge £13/hr. I bring all my own products and equipment.

Allow extra time/less to be achieved on the first few visits as it always takes longer the first few times.
