Hi - does anyone use the Hive home heating system/lighting etc - need help on what to buy, how good they are etc

Hive sell a bundle with motion sensor and lightbulbs included - is this worth buying?

Advice appreciated - thanks

I love mine. I have heating, hot water, plugs and a light. I needed a hub to be able to link it to my phone (the heating/ hot water was the hardest - the rest really easy!). It's great, lights on timers and I can make sure that I've turned important plugs off without worrying. The heating/ hot water is great as well for when out and about - I can put it on earlier if I need too as I can see the temperature of the house

I've got the heating but not the lights. Nice to be on way home from work and pop eating on when on commute.

Heating lol

Jarvisisgod · 17/02/2020 07:11

I’ve got everything they sell. Love Hive and well worth it

I get up at variable times in the mornings and don't like the heating coming on at a set time as it wakes me up. With Hive I can lie in bed and turn the heating on on my phone

We have Hive heating. It is brilliant for putting the hot water back on when we are at the airport coming home from holiday, or boosting the heating/hot water from my phone. I love it. Thinking of getting some lightbulbs, though not sure how they work.

I have heating/water, lights and plugs.

They’re all connected to Alexa so even my 4YO can turn the lights on. It was very handy when trapped under a bf baby without my phone.

FlamingoAndJohn · 17/02/2020 07:34

I’ve got similar but not Hive.

I’ve got a Nest thermostat with Hue lights in most rooms. I’ve got a motion sensor in the hallway and stairs which is hugely useful.
We have google homes in every room which so I just walk into the room and say, ‘hey google, lights on’.
It’s all very useful. We set it up in bits but the overall cost is quite high really.

We have hive heating / hot water

My top requirement was to leave the heating on very low overnight and have it turn itself up an hour or so before I get up.

It does this in a schedule but it's great to make a change on my phone from bed if I decide to get up later

We have led strip lighting from milight on a schedule and individual lights with proximity sensors. It's tempting to get everything from one supplier but that will be very expensive and almost always be less good than different things for different applications. So long as you can get them all to work together it's all good.

Integration is the key.

All sounds very promisingly good!! Thank you

I have heating and lights.
The lights are a great addition and it really makes a difference coming home to a warm and bright house, especially in winter.
I also have to say their customer support team are excellent too. I had a couple of issues resetting my system after a power cut and 5 minutes on the phone and it was all sorted and they were so nice.

I have heating and lights and it's great. Easy to use. When I am living in Asia I can set my heating higher if I know it's going to be cold in Scotland!

When we first got it, my son was 40 miles away and put the heat on and jacked it up. It was the middle of summer and we were sweating like mad then he texted, 'how's the weather there' Grin

FlamingoAndJohn · 17/02/2020 08:12

I have my living room light set to come on 15 minutes before sunset. In the winter coming home to a lit house is lovely.

The funny thing is I’ve mentioned this before on here and every was very rude and went on about using light switches like a normal person.

Ginfordinner · 17/02/2020 09:13

Just checked, and all of our main light fittings are bayonet, and Hive are only screw fitting. Oh well. Back to the drawing board.

FlamingoAndJohn · 17/02/2020 11:46

Ah. We don’t have any of them in our ceiling lights, just lamps. That way if it all goes wrong then we can still use ceiling lights.

Odd that Hive only do screw fittings. Bayonet fittings are the more common in the U.K.

Looks like my boiler has just died - if I need a new one is it something I ask the plumber to install? Or if my boiler comes back to life can it be fitted with an old boiler? Find it hard to work out online

FinallyHere · 17/02/2020 14:29

We have one of the old 'steam driven' central heating/hot water boiler. Every time they service it, we get told BGas no longer keeps the spare parts etc

Installed Hive with no problems. Enjoy

custardbear · 17/02/2020 21:29

Thank you!
Don't think the plumber is bothered ... ours just said ' when you set up your Hive... '
