Mine

  1. That giving kids processed food or things with additives are not going to do any harm
  1. That people in magazines and social media look like that
  1. The cliche that money doesn’t buy you happiness- it doesn’t but it still gives you opportunities and not having to worry about putting food on the table and paying bills
  1. That everyone has dabbled in drugs and that it doesn’t do any harm

My big one is related to the first on your list - basically, that it’s ok to eat shit food and get fat, and that you will still be healthy...

Blackbirdblue30 · 16/02/2020 23:37

That thin people must have eating disorders when they’re actually just trim and fit.

unhappytraveller · 16/02/2020 23:39

That it’s okay to let kids have as much screen time as they like. “It’s just Life Today dontcha know?”

slippermaiden · 16/02/2020 23:52

Eating meat....

That poor food choices, taking drugs and/or and drinking to excess are fine as long as it doesn't make you fat.

Environmental whataboutery. I do it as much as anyone else. As my name suggests, I love long (not an hour! but long) hot showers. I know, really, that this is totally unnecessary and shit for the environment. All that expensively heated up drinking quality water going straight down the plughole after a few seconds on me. But I use an eco shampoo bar. But I buy secondhand clothes. But I plant trees. But I but I but I. I might be getting on a plane to go skiing but I'm not as bad as X who has 4 kids. I'm too tight to pay for Fairtrade coffee but Fairtrade is probably a box ticking marketing scheme. Except when the nicest looking bananas on sale happen to be Fairtrade. Then Fairtrade is a great ethical thing and I am a good person. I'm guilty of all that shite thinking- it is a very easy game to play. I should just admit that although I am willing to mildly compromise the convenience and short term happiness of #1 occasionally for the sake of the environment and all the other people in the world, I give more fucks about the former than I do about all the rest put together.

Alcohol intake

FrenchFancie · 17/02/2020 06:35

That no one has suffered to produce that £3 t shirt from primark and it’s totally ok to buy it and chuck it next month when it falls appart because it’s such a bargain.

Orangesox · 17/02/2020 06:40

Definitely that it doesn’t matter how much alcohol you drink because “everyone does it”, that as long as you’re thinner than x person it doesn’t matter what shit food you shovel in your face, and that vaccine preventable diseases aren’t as bad as healthcare professionals make out (and they’re just trying to pump your precious children full of chemicals and heavy metals).

Foslady · 17/02/2020 07:51

That the only reason you are fat is because you shovelled Crap food in your face and there’s no other reason.........or a reason why your food choices are what they were.......
(Haste these threads - all they do is turn into attack threads, straight away this one assumes everyone overweight is greedy)

Most things about dental health... particularly children with tooth decay.

BarbaraofSeville · 17/02/2020 08:19

That if you ignore or pretend not to know about the child benefit rules for higher earners, the tax office won't notice that you've received money you're not entitled to.

These rules came in about 7 years ago and you still get people 'claiming to have no idea' and complaining that they've been asked to pay the money back.
