How to block the cold air coming down a chimney?

So we have a gas fire in the front room. One of those with fake coals on it. It's great when we have it on, but the cold air just drops down into our front room when it is not on. Any ideas how to stop this?

You need a chimney balloon. Look on Amazon.

I used some off cuts of celotex insulation stack on top of each other about 8inches thick and cut to fit inside chimney and it made the room so much warmer that we didn't need to use the gas fire after that.

Eventually we took out the gas fire bits and sealed the hole with another larger piece of insulation and duct tape and covered it with a dimplex electric fire with flame effect and it looked really cosy with just the flame effect...didn't need the fan heater function as room was warm enough.

Also because we had removed the gas fire we could then seal up the gas fire vent in the outside wall.
