Painting walls white

Has anyone just painted their walls plain white rather than all the different types of white eg Dulux timeless etc I'm tempted to do so.

Yes, I do that. Dulux Once Brilliant White. I'm not design orientated so go for white as a plain backdrop and have colour with pictures, cushions, rugs etc.

Dowser · 16/02/2020 11:42

My whole house is white , pure white that you need sunglasses on white.
I love it
You can then have any other colour you want with it.
I don’t do cosy. I like clean white bright light.

Yes, all walls brilliant white. Easy, cost effective, and pleasing to my eye!

Yes, most of my walls are white. Makes the room really fresh and bright.

I don’t do cosy. I like clean white bright light.

Neither do I. "Cosy" feels claustrophobic to me.

Our dining room and one of the bedrooms is white. I love it.

Me, everywhere I've lived I've painted white. The only room with colour is DC bedroom.

I have a teal sofa and lots of framed art. I love it. When I move I'll decorate the next living room the same.

citychick · 16/02/2020 12:57

Our loft conversion master bedroom is white. Looking a bit grubby these days.
Think I'll go for a warmer colour next.
It did look lovely and fresh for the first few years. Easy to decorate with pictures etc. Warm, cream coloured carpet.
I prefer cosy and the room has South facing windows with a north facing velux.
If it was a north facing room is find pure white too cold.

Enjoy decorating!

I like a theme throughout and use white walls to bring the house together. I look forward to the Living Etc white edition every year.

Yup, our whole house is white. Easy to touch up and keep it looking fresh.

It was supposed to give us time to decide what colours to eventually paint it but realised we like the clean look and easy maintenance. East to add colour with furnishings, curtains etc. Love it.

LER83 · 16/02/2020 13:09

All the walls in our last house were white. I prefer it as it's easier to touch bits up when needed and then you can have whatever colour you want on curtains etc and you dont have to paint everytime you fancy a colour change! Our new house was completely magnolia when we moved In Hmm, gradually changing all walls to white!

SoMuchToBits · 16/02/2020 13:11

Technical, I also have teal sofas! I've gone for a seaside feel in my house. Teal in the living/dining rooms, a light sea green in my bedroom and blue and white in the spare bedroom and ds's room. All with white walls and ceilings.

Getoffmylilo · 16/02/2020 13:15

White walls and floorboards. Easy to repaint every so often and you can change the entire colour scheme of a room with accessories instead. We use Dulux Once for the walls and usually Farrow and Ball on the floorboards. The upstairs landing is badly lit so it's easy to miss a bit so we used that goes-on-pink-dries-white paint last time.

Magpiefeather · 16/02/2020 13:18

We have just moved into our new house and have painted it all white in Dulux brilliant white. It looks great!!! We are adding lots of different colours through soft furnishings, artwork and prints.

The only trouble is a couple of pieces of furniture which I’ve always thought were white and now very clearly cream!

olivehater · 16/02/2020 13:23

Yep our kitchen- diner is white. It was such a big space, we did a base coat in white intending to pick a second coat in some sort of cream ( pre the fashion of grey everywhere) and then thought it looked fine as it was ( plus we couldn’t be bothered). Looks lovely and fresh. Also easy to touch up when the kids draw on it (A regular occurrence with one of ours). It hasn't dated in the same way a cream would have done or grey inevitably will do going forward.

oldfashionedtastingtea · 16/02/2020 13:23

My whole house is white. It feels light and clean. I have enough colourful stuff, wood and cosy feeling things like throws on the couch to not make it look sterile and cold. I love it.

I've had every colour in the past and everything just bores me after a few years and it feels dated quite quickly. The white doesn't bore me and feels more classic.
