Help my daughter has rubbed Vaseline in her hair

My two year old DD decided to shut herself in the bathroom this morning with her sister and has smeared a pot of snuffle babe into her hair.
We've washed her hair which hasn't worked.

Does anyone have any useful tips to remove Vaseline from hair so that my daughter does not look like she's walking around with a Mohican forever?

Washing up liquid should do it. It cuts through grease, which is essentially what Vaseline/snuffle babe is. Give it a good lather with that and then rinse. Good luck op.

My son did this many years ago. I hate to tell you, it wasn’t a quick fix. I tried everything, including taking him to every hairdresser in town in desperation, thinking they’d know what to do. I asked on here and I think in the end rubbing cornflour in helped, then washing with lots of washing up liquid. His hair was in a terrible state afterwards, very dry. I can laugh about it now but at the time I was horrified Grin

Agree with the WUL suggestion. It’ll pry take two or three lathers and rinses.

Thanks both- will try the washing up liquid and will nip out and get some cornflower. I'm astonished at how she seems to have rubbed it into every part of hair- although we're far more bothered about it than she is!

Can you wipe her head over with wet wipes?

A friend's child did this many years ago. She asked a pharmacist who said to persevere with a warm (not hot) flannel, just wiping, and washing a couple of times a day with shampoo but be prepared for it to take a while. She was told that anything that would really cut through the grease would be too harsh for a child's head.

Washing up liquid on dry hair.

novacaneforthepain · 16/02/2020 08:20

Wet it, Smother in conditioner and then fine tooth comb it

Washing up liquid and the shower as hot as she can stand. Be prepared for a couple of washes a day for a few days.

Oh I do this regularly to my hair on purpose. Soak for a while in warm water then a couple of washes with caffeine shampoo works for me x

We had similar and my fried who is a hairdresser sorted it for us. Let her hair dry and then rub washing up liquid in. Lots of it. Wash it off and repeat if necessary.

It doesn't work half as well if the water is there first.

My son once did this, a full can of dry shampoo and several washes did the trick....eventually!

Eeeeek2 · 16/02/2020 09:03

I'd rub washing up liquid in first before putting any water on.

Washing up liquid on dry hair, will take a few washed though for it to come out. Speaking from experience..

Allcrimps · 16/02/2020 09:32

Another vote for washing up liquid.on dry hair. Do a few washes. Then condition and comb, and follow up with another shampoo. Dry shampoo can help with curing the last of the oil slick look for a day or two until ymit washes out. Nightmare!

@Monsterjam
Why do you put vaseline in your hair? Do tell! Thank you.
I've put in around my hairline to prevent staining when dyeing, and regretted it. It does make a mess.

Monsterjam · 16/02/2020 10:57

@ElizabethMainwaring I do it around once a month for a moisture boost x
