I need to start looking for a job not fussed on what doing just something to help top up OH wages.
I got pregnant at 16 and have been a sahp since and have had other babies. I'm now 25.
I have little work experience.

If concentrate on a skills section: organisation, communication, time management etc. Can you use Microsoft Office? Put that on too if so, plus internet and social media. Quick learner, well presented, flexible, enthusiastic... Good luck!

Budgeting, time management, volunteering in school/playgroup? What sort of work are you hoping for? Would going back to college be an option or an apprenticeship?

sleepismysuperpower1 · 15/02/2020 12:45

Computer and internet skills.
Written and verbal communication.
Organizational skills.
Multi-tasking.
Time management skills.
Ability to work under pressure.
Decision making.

is what google throws up when you search 'SAHM CVs' x
Self-motivation.

I would probably do a list of “key skills and characteristics”:

  • Good time management
  • Organised
  • Energetic and enjoy being busy and active
  • Quick to learn new skills
  • Adaptable

And then if you get an interview, you can give examples of when you’ve had to be organised or adaptable in your life with the DC.

At 25 you are still young, employers won’t necessarily expect you to have lots of experience, it’s more about your attitude and perhaps your schooling... how’s that?

Ha cross posted with everyone!

DroppedBoxxedRuth · 15/02/2020 12:52

Honestly, that experience won't really count. I work in recruitment in-house and even our lowest bands need experience or certs.

So you need to do a course. What areas are you interested in, customer service, retail admin etc?

A guaranteed area for work is direct care if you could do that sort of work, but again, you'll need a certificate for this.

NotSoThinLizzy · 15/02/2020 12:57

Lots of jobs in my area at the minute are no experience necessary. I have my gcses. And some work experience with costumer facing roles and mental maths as we had no tills.

I'll take any job really not fussy. Theres a new premier inn being built opening next year bringing another 100 jobs to my area so hoping to apply for that when the applications go live.

Focus more on your customer facing role vs the skills from home. So you can say your are good with customers, good communication skills, good attention to detail etc and pad out the experience section with skills you learnt on those jobs.

Aaahhhbump · 15/02/2020 13:16

You've got a year, till the hotel opens how about a hospitality course at college?

sleepismysuperpower1 · 15/02/2020 13:30

@Aaahhhbump 's idea is a good one, see if your local college offers BTEC Hospitality. you could also try and do some volunteering at a charity shop so you can refresh your customer skills and show you have recent experience

NotSoThinLizzy · 15/02/2020 15:15

Yes to the charity shop idea have phoned a few left messages 😊

I would definitely see if you can volunteer during the time it takes until you secure a job.
It will look really good on your CV.

Also try and use the word ‘enthusiastic’ or try to come across as that in your cv.

I say this as I have this week had to read through 38 CVs !

NotSoThinLizzy · 15/02/2020 17:17

@itchyscratch any other "buzz" words to use?

Thank you everyone. Not in absolutley desperate for a job but will give me a life outside the home and kids and a bit of financial freedom
