If you were going to see a show near Leicester square today, where would you go out to eat nearby and what else might be nice to go and do?

I'd probably get as far away from Leicester Square as possible - maybe walk to the South Bank? Although the weather is supposed to be grim today. Food wise, it depends who is eating and what you like but I'd head to Nopi first if I could get a table. If not, probably China Town.

Do you want specific restaurant recommendations, or just areas? Masses of places to eat around Covent Garden very close to Leicester Sq, including Dishoom (trendy Indian). Chinatown is also right there, masses of Chinese restaurants but also Chinese mini supermarkets and Chinese bakery/sweet goods shops.

In terms of something to do, do you have DC with you? The weather forecast is for a lot of rain, so you need indoors things:

Transport Museum, Covent Garden
National Gallery
National Portrait Gallery
Wander round Nice shops in the covered bit of Covent Garden
Institute for Contemporary Art on The Mall

You will queue for Dishoom. If you want a good restaurant without waiting around download an app called WalkIn and you can virtually queue and it will alert you when your table is ready.
Personally I’d try to get into Hopper or Kricket but not if you have kids with you

Tons of options in nearby soho - what cuisine do you fancy? Don't eat in Leicester Square!

Wigeon · 15/02/2020 07:30

Other good restaurants near Leicester Sq:

Brasserie Zedel - really authentic French brasserie, very attractive surroundings

Kricket Soho - stunningly nice Indian, lots of vegetation choices

Both near Piccadilly Circus (very short walk from Leicester Sq)

The crypt at St Martins in the Fields I’m Trafalgar Square is nice for a budget meal.

Afternoon tea at the National Gallery restaurant?

It all depends on your likes, children’s ages if any, how far you’d want to travel from the theatre and your budget.

Flatiron on Henrietta street. But only if you’re going early around 5/5:30 as there will start to be a queue.
Perfect steak, gorgeous chips and a free ice cream when you leave.

China Town.

Queenoftheashes · 15/02/2020 07:38

I would do dishoom or flat iron

ahhRats · 15/02/2020 07:40

I have a 16 year old with me. We're happy to wander, even in the crap weather!! I had been thinking a nice brunch?

Flat Iron is great
Ceru
Mildreds

Though they aren't really brunch options... I'll keep thinking

Wigeon · 15/02/2020 08:14

Brown’s in Covent Garden does brunch menu here
