You can use this to calculate your stamp duty: www.moneyadviceservice.org.uk/en/tools/house-buying/stamp-duty-calculator

Lardlizard · 14/02/2020 23:41

Ok looks like it would be 22k plus in total

Included selling fees

So basically 22k plus down the drain

Do you really need or want to move? It's not money down the drain if you do.

Lardlizard · 15/02/2020 07:26

It’s not a need but something we are thinking about

So would having to pay the stamp duty put you off buying the half a million pound house?

BarbaraofSeville · 15/02/2020 07:53

Any chance of extending the house that you live in instead?

MinnieMountain · 15/02/2020 08:43

Write down pros and cons of moving, then see if the £22k still seems too much.

popcorndiva · 15/02/2020 08:46

The stamp duty argument is why we are improving our house, but I still want to move in the next 10 years as want to change location. If you are staying in the same area, cheaper to love it than list it

stamp duty is bonkers
