Immediate partial upper denture - will I ever eat again?!

So I had a tooth extracted today. I'll almost certainly be getting an implant in 6-9 months time. I had an immediate denture made prior to the extraction because it's fairly near the front - not right at the front but near enough to be noticeable when I smile/laugh/whatever.

I was literally having nightmares about this bloody denture. It's one that goes behind the row of top front teeth over to the other side. So a palate at the top of my mouth.

But today I've discovered it's a) not particularly uncomfortable and b) I can already speak fairly normally, the latter of which is a huge relief as I have to speak in front of people a lot for work.

However eating is an issue. I KNOW it's super early days, and obviously the extraction site still needs to heal too.

But I had some scrambled eggs earlier and the denture was sliding/coming loose the whole time (seems to stay put when not eating).

Will this change in time? I love food Grin.
I know I can remove it for eating but I'd really rather not as I often eat socially including at work. I also know that the more you try and do with your denture, the more likely you are to adapt.

Has anyone got any experiences of adapting to an immediate denture so they are able to eat (relatively) normally?! Thanks

It does get better and easier to eat, especially once your gum has healed properly and is tougher. I find some foods do get bits stuck under the denture so avoid those if eating with others (rough pestos, crisps, bread, toast etc)

Try a dentures adhesive like poligrip, I used that with my immediate denture after a few days and found it much easier to eat.
Also would recommend cutting food into smaller pieces and eat chopped fruit (sliced apple etc) I always eat my biscuits with a cup of tea to soften them as well

I had one of these and waited 3 years until the dental work was completed. Honestly, eating out I had soup and mushy stuff, at home I removed it to eat. It was my front tooth and the one next to it,it was replacing, I imagine it would be different for a back tooth. Big hugs, it's not much fun

If you think it’s loose go back and have it refitted properly. A private denture repair guy had told us that poligrip just leads to them getting looser with deteriorating the gum further and those tablet cleaners apparently break down the denture n make them discolour quicker.

Mine was painfully tight for the first few days but it’s totally fine now and I can eat pretty much everything.. Obviously super sticky toffee isn’t a plan.

Thank you all. @Cinderbelly - I had biscuits dunked in tea for my dinner last night. Every cloud and all that!

I just keep reminding myself that this is a means to an end and every day is closer to a permanent solution.
