Alternatives to Easter eggs

A bit early maybe?! Grin I say this every year and still end up buying eggs! We have lots of family close by and they all buy DCs Easter eggs. We receive too many. Each year I say I'm going to look for presents to buy for nieces, nephews etc instead of chocolate eggs. The trouble is that eggs are just so cheap and easy. Does anyone have ideas for alternative present ideas? Age range is 4-14.

We do books at Easter

Although we often do some chocolate too!

Tulio · 14/02/2020 08:48

I got mine a little jellycat fluffy chicks last year, they’re still a favourite - in with with inner circle of toys haha

Kpo58 · 14/02/2020 08:52

Bubbles maybe? You can end up with too much of non chocolate things too. There is a limit to the amount of Easter soft toys that you want in the house.

An Easter activity block
Easter colouring /pencils
Painting by numbers or other craft Easter theme
Lego /playmobil usually have something Eastery
Hatch your own dinosaur/unicorn/whatever
Sometimes you can get science kits packaged in an egg

preponderings · 14/02/2020 08:56

Something to plant/grow?

reluctantbrit · 14/02/2020 09:21

Maybe just a small chocolate bunny and a book? I don’t like the craft staff as we never have the time at Easter and none wants to do it afterwards. If you see them in the weeks running up to Easter that may work though.

Stravapalava · 14/02/2020 09:23

My DM gets them new clothes. The easter bunny used to bring mine an easter themed teddy - bunny / chick or similar.

haba · 14/02/2020 09:25

We usually give craft sets, as they have the Easter holidays to do them in. There are usually lots of lovely inexpensive kits around in the supermarkets at this time of year.

haba · 14/02/2020 09:26

Ha- just read @reluctantbrit post! Maybe not craft then? Grin

happypotamus · 14/02/2020 09:27

I don't buy my DC Easter eggs because they don't need more chocolate and get lots from other relatives. I only get them a small gift each e.g book or clothes (cheap dress or top from H&M), bubble wands, activity books, craft items.

DSD has been getting a Lush bath bomb for a few years now. Think I’ll start doing it for DS (much younger) too.

RedPandaFluff · 14/02/2020 11:04

I second @Tulio's Jellycat chick idea - looooook Grin

I get mine books, sometimes an Easter soft toy and last year I got them a sunflower kit each.

Pilot12 · 14/02/2020 11:40

My Mum buys all the Grandchildren a T-shirt each, MIL gives them £10.00 each in a card. For the younger ones The Works does 10 books for £10.00, perhaps a couple each and a small egg.

Shazzanat · 14/02/2020 12:28

Mind get lots of chocolate from family so I make them a basket each with little bits and bobs in that they can use over the spring or summer.. Sandals/sunglasses/chalk/bubbles/swimming costume/book/crayons/sun hat/lolly molds/stickers/colouring book/skipping rope/ball etc etc.

HebeMumsnet · 14/02/2020 12:36

My parents always got us slippers at Easter. I thought it was a widespread thing until I left home and realised it was just my weird family.

Now, I think about it, it's bonkers. Why buy slippers just as summer is round the corner?

Anyway, to this day the smell of rubber soles on new slippers makes me think of Easter and we were always very pleased to get our Easter slippers.

BrassicaBabe · 14/02/2020 16:46

Some great ideas. I want one of those chicks myself Grin I might go down the book route with book vouchers for the older ones. Thanks!

My sister in law always used to buy my girls a swimming costume and beach towel for a Easter. I’m not sure why, but they were very appreciated.

CharlieTPatteson · 14/02/2020 19:04

These are a lovely idea!
Seedbom from kabloom
Sorry- not sure how to post a link!
They come from as little as £4 roughly.

CharlieTPatteson · 14/02/2020 19:07

Or for something a little more expensive- one of the butterfly kits that lets you watch caterpillars grow into butterflies- or a wormery or a ladybird kit?
If they are teens- a book is defin a good idea!

BrassicaBabe · 14/02/2020 20:41

The seed bombs are genius! Doing it. The pack of 10 will go a long way!
