Sky basic package price

I'm renegotiating our Sky package at the moment. We have the basic entertainment package (no sports, kids or movies). When I said I wanted to leave, they offered to reduce it to £17 a month.

We can't get their broadband in our area, so we're with a different firm for that.

Is £17 the best deal for a basic package? Tell me what brilliant deal you negotiated!

(They did offer us a free SkyQ box but it doesn't really give us anything we don't already have.)

I took the £17 a month deal. TBF I barely watch TV so should have just cancelled.

mummabubs · 13/02/2020 21:35

Our trick (if you can bear it) is to actually leave. Give it a month and they'll be in touch. As a result we now pay £11 a month fixed for 18 months 😊

mummabubs · 13/02/2020 21:36

They also offered us a free skyQ box, but then when the engineer came out to install it he said due to our house being terraced he couldn't do it (odd given we're in the biggest city in Wales and not exactly out in the sticks or anything!)

Winterfishing · 13/02/2020 21:37

@mummabubs Did they delete your Sky planner and charge for reconnection? Don't mind being without Sky for a bit (we have been eyeing up Now TV anyway) but would like to avoid unnecessary hassle.

We were paying £12 a month for about two years. They've recently put it up to £14 a month.

That's for the basic package with Sky Q box

mummabubs · 13/02/2020 21:54

We've still got access to all of our old recorded stuff on sky planner, yes 😊 Don't think we were charged for reconnection.

ivegotthisyeah · 13/02/2020 21:58

Now tv is brilliant rang to cancel
My sky yesterday as don't watch it now we have now tv sticks in all of the TVs to find out I'm tied in until may 2021 HmmShockHmm

CazM2012 · 13/02/2020 21:59

Try nowtv for a few months, we did and haven’t gone back to sky or missed it at all

UnleashTheFury · 13/02/2020 22:01

10 months ago I cancelled sky.

During the cancellation they tried to get me to stay but I declined.

I am not exaggerating when I say that since that day they have rang me no less than 5 times per week every week since that day (I ignore every call)

I also receive a letter every 3 weeks asking me back.

At one point the deal was £10 per month but currently they are asking £14 per month.

PorpentinaScamander · 13/02/2020 22:01

Left sky for Now TV and don't regret it for a second. Sky wouldn't offer me anything amazing, other than a free 2nd box despite me repeatedly telling them I only have 1 TV in the house Hmm

wishing4sun · 13/02/2020 22:04

I'm ringing to leave tomorrow , been with them a long time and the price just creeps up, am looking at now tv, roku and fire stick.

blondiebrowneyes · 13/02/2020 22:07

Anyone got sky with sports and movies? If so how much for that?

IronNeonClasp · 13/02/2020 22:23

I think I'm being ripped off. Currently pay £59.00 a month for Virgin. Hardly any TV channels but a great internet connection... Hmm

Rhubardandcustard · 13/02/2020 22:26

Now tv. Always get a deal for a package currently £5 entertainment and £6 movies.

Winterfishing · 17/02/2020 12:36

I took the plunge and left Sky!

Their parting shot was an offer for £15 a month entertainment package, but I pulled the plug.

They were saying, "But you're a VIP Gold member... you get loads of benefits like... Sky Go" (which we never use).

They also couldn't tell us if we would have freesat or not - "You might have it, but we can't guarantee it unless you pay £10 a month" sounded a lot like a blag to me.

I am anticipating further offers coming our way between now and the cancellation finalisation in March. I will keep everyone posted!

In the meantime, we have a 7 day free trial of Now TV, which will then be £8.99 a month (tips on how to lower this if possible would be gratefully appreciated).

PS Sky try to scare you off by saying it's a 30 minute wait, but when you tell them that you want to cancel (go to the retentions team, not the value team), they put you straight through to someone.

We also trialled Now TV and freesat while waiting for sky to come back with a better offer... We didn't want to stick with either for different reasons but for what it's worth Now will offer you 3 months at £3 or something like that at the end of the trial 😊

Winterfishing · 27/02/2020 15:55

Update:

Sky phoned today and offered us the entertainment package, free kids' (including Disney) and box sets, PLUS a free SkyQ box and installation for £15 a month for 18 months. We agreed, as our old box was on the blink anyway, and it seemed like a really good deal.

We have incurred the cost of one month of NowTV at £8.99 but I can cancel that now.

Thanks all for your tips - hope this helps some with a guideline for a good deal!

I ended up paying £6 for the basic Sky deal a couple of years ago before I left completely.
Recently I took out a Now tv pass at £8.99 . After going online to cancel at the end of the month I was offered 3 months at £1.60 a month which I accepted. It was coming up to renewal recently and they offered me a further six months at the same rate.

mencken · 27/02/2020 16:18

ooh..that's worth knowing re now TV. Time for some hard bargaining when my tesco vouchers run out!!

1vandal2 · 27/02/2020 16:22

Now tv do a deal for movies and entertainment for new customers for a year for £99 on black friday. Best deal to get it. Can just cancel and sign up with a different email every year

greyspottedgoose · 27/02/2020 16:26

Best thing to do with now TV is buy the gift cards, it's £10 for 2 months entertainment or £15 for 2 months movies, much cheaper than paying monthly

quirrels · 27/02/2020 16:33

It's the planner that keeps me hooked. I must give it a try though.
