Spending husband's money...

Someone on FB shared a meme of "oh how's I'd like to be a housewife whose only job is to to look hot and spend my husband's money".

To which I replied no thanks, I actually like to work and spend my own money. I do have expensive tastes, so this still stands. Well everybody got super against me because... Who doesn't want to spend someone else's money. I thought we were in the 21st century!

Could have been a Debbie Downer but I feel it sends (and perpetuates) the wrong message. Housewives are there to look hot and serve their husbands in exchange they get to spend all their money...

Well I have never looked 'hot' - if my hair is brushed it's a bonus - but DP has supported me for the last 10 years so I must be doing something right.

The meme sounds ridiculous but your response is judgemental as well.

My initial reaction was 'ewww'. Might be childish, but I don't care. My ex-H used to moan if I bought a lipstick (with the money I earned while he sat at home doing nothing.) Now I'm single I can buy whatever I like. I bought a Lancome lipstick just before Christmas. (I have expensive tastes, even though I work in a supermarket.) Maybe it's just me but I love earning and spending my own money.

Wrong message to who though? Presumably the person was an adult who posted and other adults have seen it. I'm guessing the people who commented haven't taken the post seriously. If I had seen it I would have responded depending on my mood, maybe a bit silly if I was that way out and had a laugh or rolled my eyes and scrolled on. I wouldn't have treated as a serious message but as a daft meme.

I look like a scruffy pile of shit but my husband still happily lets me spend his money. Winning.

Is this actually a thread??!
We are all living in unique and different circumstances. If you spend your husbands money...good for you!! If you don't need to then that's great! Ffs!!!
