Have you got rid of your freezer drawers?

Asking because mine are a pain in the arse - one is just about passable as it has so many bits broken off, and the other is just starting to crack.

Considering taking them out and just shoving stuff in the space instead. But will this cause an issue for the actual freezing?

No, I couldn't find either on there - I did look for a link. I'll be stopping by home bargains I in the next day or so, will update then if you haven't found out by then.

I have seen them in Wilko's didn't seem that sturdy there though, they were all cracked. No problem with mine. And cheaper!

My freezer compartment drawers were all cracked so I bought adjustable shelves instead from Amazon. They weren't expensive and they do the job. Sorry I don't have a link

Supermarket shopping bag, the big ones, not a normal plastic one. Stack, bung in freezer. peasy.

I don't get why they make the drawers out of plastic anyway it just cracks and crumbles from the cold Hmm i remember freezers having all wire drawers years ago which makes more sense

Our main (old, age about 22) fridge freezer has wire drawers, apart from the bottom one that's plastic and all cracked. Made in England it was too, and it seems to be indestructable.

We also have a much newer undercounter freezer, which has see through plastic drawers, which I quite like, but obviously it's too early to assess durability. Small things do fall through the wire drawers, which can be a bit of a pain.

Old FF had a wobble a few years ago during a heatwave and I thought the end was nigh then, so we actually went to look at new ones, but found that all the freezer sections were suddenly tiny, I think due to more insulation, so I thought 'I can't live with a freezer that small' went home, vacuumed the vents on the old one, which solved the problem and it lives on.

Reason we got the undercounter one was in preparation for the smaller freezers in modern fridge freezers, along with I think I want one with a bigger fridge section, so there's more space for wine lovely fresh vegetables.

I took mine off. The only one left is the proper full plastic one at the bottom. So much easier.

At least I've now got a frost free freezer. Sodding about defrosting the old one was a hassle. I'd leave it as long as possible (a year 😚). Then it would take a month or two using things up and gearing myself up for the dreaded couple of days it would take, using up contents and sometimes adding for daily needs. Couldn't do it in summer which would have been quicker. Then having a big shop to fill it up again.

Zaphodsotherhead · 13/02/2020 15:56

I did and just shoved stuff in. It was a bitch to find things that I knew were in there but had got buried under masses of frozen peas, but my god, I could get SO MUCH MORE in there!

ChicCroissant · 13/02/2020 15:59

Mine has the side-hung drawers and only one shelf at the top - if it had shelves all the way down, it would stop rammed in food jamming the drawer above Angry Grin

As an aside - has nobody invented the 'hinge out' under fridge freezer yet, and if not, why not? That way you could have a chest freezer (as in, a top opening freezer) underneath your fridge, which you could pull out and would sort of flip out on a hinge so you could open it. The framework of the whole could support the weight of the fridge on top whilst the freezer was open, and then the fridge would sit back on top of the freezer again when you pushed it back.

They are going backards Zaph my newer posher freezer can't take the action.
I like a bit of batchcooking but the DC ram the freezer so full that if you aren't carefull you get knocked out at 5am by some weapons grade Tupperware containing Green.
I have a bruised foot from a Mushroom and Stuffing lattice since Xmas.
