Blue dot Festival - how much?

Looks a good line up and am tempted. Tickets not on sale yet but can’t see any indication of how much they’re going to be. Anyone been before and able to give me an idea for a family of 4? Can’t go for the luxury camping but might stretch to a 4-man Belltent (that has a price quoted of ‘from £495 before factoring in the ticket cost )😱😱

No worries. Seen prices and it’s just unaffordable with 3 adults (DD 16) and an 11 year old plus cheapest camping option - over £1100 for Thurs- Sun. How on earth do people afford these things?! Would love to have seen Bjork and Metronomy though.

Have you thought about buying a tent? You'll get a decent one for a lot less than they rent one out for.

BarbaraofSeville · 14/02/2020 07:25

It's the luxury camping that bumps it up, but that's what you get for a boutique festival aimed at middle class families compared with the likes of Reading, Leeds, Download and teenagers prepared to slum it for the weekend.

Like Center Parcs vs Butlins.

But you don't have to pay through the nose for the fancy camping. You can take and put up your own tent.
As far as I'm aware, most festivals now have a 'glamping' option. And it is always more expensive than normal camping.

MsRinky · 14/02/2020 07:43

The vast majority of people who go to festivals don't go with a luxury camping option - they take a tent and camp in the included basic camping. So 3 x adults and an 11 year old at BlueDot would be £653 for Thu-Sun.

Genuinegenius · 15/02/2020 21:21

Yes we could skip the basic 4-man bell tent option but £653 is still a LOT of money but I guess it’s how much things cost these days. I just know that if we went and bought a tent we would spend at least another £200 after buying extra bits and bobs. We got rid of our 4 man tent after a disastrous camping holiday when the kids were small and our tent got flooded on a Cornish camp site.

And do I want to go to a festival where a large contingent of people are spending thousands to attend? Will have a look at how much tickets for Reading are...

Reading = £232 per weekend ticket. How the feck do young people/students afford to go?!!!

You know Reading also has a posh tent option? At about £200 per person?

gobbynorthernbird · 16/02/2020 07:10

Most people at Blue Dot will spend the price of the ticket and camp using their own tent (or a borrowed one). They won't be spending thousands.

hattyhatshats · 16/02/2020 07:21

Festivals are expensive, but they're all day entertainment and incomparable to other concerts/big day out type things.

It's the cost of a holiday so you need to know you'd enjoy the whole experience and I wouldn't just go for a couple of bands if you're "meh" about the rest.

Standrewsschool · 16/02/2020 07:32

Do you need to go for the whole weekend? Are day tickets available yet? I’ve never been to a festival all weekend.

Someone I know went to Bluedot and really enjoyed it.

Genuinegenius · 17/02/2020 09:11

I’ve only ever been to one festival where I’ve camped (6 of us in 1 small tent) and it was Glastonbury but A VERY LONG TIME AGO. Funnily enough I’m on exactly the same pay as I was back then so I’ve gone very wrong in my life somewhere. Never fancied it when kids were small. I’m hoping to have a holiday this year so obviously can’t do both at these prices. But it looks like a great Festival with interesting stuff going on aside from the music that doesn’t just involve jugglers in tie-dye and face-painting Grin

Ive worked at bluedot the last couple of years (not this year though) and it really is a great festival. If I were you I'd reconsider getting yourselves a tent. They don't have to be expensive! We're taking DS to kendal this year (admitally he doesn't need a ticket as will be 18m) and we're really looking forward to a weekend in close quarters under the stars Grin

Genuinegenius · 17/02/2020 14:02

Thanks Lookingatthings. Good that you worked there. Will have a think about splurging out on a tent. Might have a challenge selling the idea to my other half after our last camping trip though!
