Do you have an open plan kitchen, diner, family room

If so, can I ask if you enter the space at the kitchen, diner of family room?

We are knocking though to a bedroom so will either close off the bedroom door and keep the kitchen door or enter via the bedroom which will become the living area and close off the kitchen.

I think we should keep the kitchen area door but would appreciate thoughts. Thanks.

It's difficult to say without some sort of diagram explaining the layout?

We are open plan except for the kitchen. I like the door as it contains cooking smells and noises to that area. It also means you don't have to listen to the washing machine or dishwasher constantly.

My DD has a large open plan living area which is L shaped. The kitchen area is at the top of the L and there are glass bifold doors between the dining and living area, which innreality are open all the time.

We have an L shaped kitchen/dining/family room. We have a door into the kitchen (the smaller end of the L) and then double doors into the family room (opposite end of the L). Is that an option, it makes for a nice flow through the rooms.

We have a large square kitchen/dining/ family room. You enter from the hall through double doors. The kitchen is on the right and is u shaped with units etc on three sides. There’s a long worktop on the third side with base cupboards and the dining table is the other side of that. We have a long sideboard in that area too. The family area is opposite the dining area, with a TV unit , sofa and a couple of side tables.

We have a large rectangle shaped kitchen/diner/family room.

We enter from the hall into living area, were there are 2 sofas coffee table tv and French doors to the garden, the dining table is between the living area and kitchen with a door to utility. The the kitchen is on 3 walls opposite the French doors. Theres a window where the sink is.

We have door from hallway in to the kitchen part. We then have the family room area to the right of the kitchen and then the dining room is extended off the family room into garden. We also have double doors in the family room that lead in to living room so it can be shut off or completely open plan.

Here is a diagram. We either keep the kitchen door and close the bedroom door over or the other way round. The wall between kitchen and bedroom is being removed.

Keep the kitchen door I think.
Think about furniture and exactly where it will go. That will help you make your decision.

wineymummy · 13/02/2020 12:31

I would say keep the kitchen door. But in your case I say keep the door straight ahead. It's nice to enter from a front door and see a door ahead of you, especially with a garden/window beyond. And your kitchen is right there, you don't have to walk across the living room to get to it.

PETRONELLAS · 13/02/2020 12:32

On George Clark/Kirsty and Phil I think they would ask about flow. Will you have garden doors put into the bedroom, so will it look better from the hall if it all runs through?

eurochick · 13/02/2020 12:37

I've lived in three open plan homes. In two you entered from the hallway into the dining area. In our current place its between the living and kitchen areas.

HelenUrth · 13/02/2020 12:54

Would it be possible to put a new doorway nearer the front door? As Wineymummy says, it's nice to see a door. And if you close off the bedroom door it will look like a dead end. But removing both existing doors and putting in a new (glazed?) door, at a right angle to where the kitchen door is now, would give you more space for the living area as well as being a nice entrance to that part of the house.

Chesntoots · 13/02/2020 12:57

I had one and came in through the kitchen.

I wouldn't have another though. Noise and smells from the kitchen were a nightmare. No putting the washing machine on and relaxing for a bit in front of the tv etc. Open plan living and dining would be ok though.
