Tv suggestions for 13 & 15 yo teen boys.

My older kids never seem to watch anything except what the primary kid watches. And if I have to suffer through another episode of Gumball or Spongebob I’ll go nuts!
Any suggestions for good tv shows for teen boys?

My 13 year old likes Arrow and Flash. If you have amazon prime Lie to Me is the pick of my older teen

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 12/02/2020 18:21

Lemony Snicket series on Netflix has been a winner with my two boys the same ages. As was Scorpion (also Netflix)

BearSoFair · 12/02/2020 18:31

Legends of Tomorrow, Arrow, The Flash, Gotham, Supergirl have always been popular with DS1 and his friends. They're older now but still enjoy them.

His Dark Materials maybe, not sure if it'll still appeal to the 15 year old though.

Stranger things

Squidsister · 12/02/2020 22:56

My 11 and 14 yr olds have pretty much stopped watching kids tv now. Programmes we have watched: Simpsons, Junior Bake Off, Lego Masters, Ghosts, QI, Doctor Who, Steve Backshall, Robot Wars, His Dark Materials.
DS also likes Top Gear for some strange reason, and Room 101.
We try and find programmes we all like, but aren’t too rude or violent!

smiffypeabrain · 12/02/2020 22:58

The Goldbergs.

SistersOfPercy · 12/02/2020 23:02

Good omens followed by going postal.
Bit of Pratchett set em right 😉

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 12/02/2020 23:04

Definitely Stranger Things if they haven't already seen it.

I'm working my way through Life on Mars and Ashes to Ashes with my teen dd which is currently on iplayer. We're both loving it.

Drinkciderfromalemon · 12/02/2020 23:49

Have they seen Big Bang Theory?

Notso · 13/02/2020 00:06

My 15 year old is enjoying The Crown.
When it's on he likes The Apprentice and amusingly Eat Well For Less Grin
He also love Blackadder and Father Ted.

DoorbellsSleighbellsSchnitzel · 13/02/2020 00:17

Stranger Things
Brooklyn 99
Modern Family
Final Space
all popular choices with my 13 yo DS.

Whatevah · 13/02/2020 06:12

Great, thank you all!
My eldest has aspergers and change don’t come easy.
He literally only watches Gumball, Spongebob, and Shrek films.
He does like Bake off and apprentice when they are on.
13yo watches MOTD.
That’s it! It’s like they don’t know what else to watch. I don’t bother with tv much myself.
I’m going to write a list and let them start going through it.
Thank you.

My 11yo who still loves CBeebies loves the Play that goes Wrong (though we skipped the courtroom one), Bake Off, QI, and David Attenborough, and will stay in the room for George Clare's Amazing Spaces, other house-renovation programmes, Only Connect, snooker...

Howmanysleepsnow · 13/02/2020 08:04

Friends
Big Bang theory
Taskmaster
Apprentice
Legends of tomorrow
The flash

jackparlabane · 13/02/2020 08:10

Also HIGNFY starting halfway through the episodes (ie after the main politics bits).

So Awkward is a great slightly surreal show on CBBC about three girls at secondary (not spelt out, but one is gobby before thinking, one autistic chess player, one horribly anxious) and the lads they hang out with. It's very funny after you get to know the characters, and really helped my 11yo get used to the idea of secondary when little sister got into it. Also proves that the short chubby kid age 11 can be the guy everyone is swooning over by third year, which must have been unplanned!

The Masked Singer is good if you record it or catch up with the songs on YouTube and don't have to sit through the panel deliberating about which celeb you've never heard of it could be.

YesThisIsMe · 13/02/2020 08:10

QI, Only Connect, Futurama, Disenchanted,Top Gear, Good Omens, Murder in Successville (quite rude in places) Sherlock, original Star Trek, The IT Crowd

YesThisIsMe · 13/02/2020 08:12

How could I have forgotten Taskmaster!? Everything stops for Taskmaster in our house.

cravingmilkshake · 13/02/2020 08:13

Locke and key is amazing

BrieAndChilli · 13/02/2020 08:18

My 13 year old with ASD so maybe not a typical teen is currently working his way through Star Trek

Mine like to watch impractical jokers and magic for humans.

jackparlabane · 13/02/2020 08:25

Planning on getting Star Trek probably TNG for mine, @BrieandChilli. Been watching Picard which might not be too scary, but without knowing who the Federation, Borg, Romulans etc are, the kids would never understand it.

HelloYouTwo · 13/02/2020 12:07

@jackparlabane do watch the courtroom one of Play that Goes Wrong (apologies if there is a personal reason you would rather not). I thought it was one of the best.

This is a great thread thank you all for suggestions. I wish I had something to add that hasn’t already been mentioned. Smile

jackparlabane · 13/02/2020 19:20

@HelloYouTwo Oh yes, I loved it! But for a 12yo terrified of violence or the idea of parents separating, and a 7yo with no real clue about shagging, affairs, etc, I don't think so.

Ds loved Blackadder 2 and 3, haven't shown him 4. Series 1 wasn't so good anyway.

Funny animals are always a good thing to search for if they're on YouTube.

HelloYouTwo · 13/02/2020 19:27

@jackparlabane I’m sorry - I have a 12yo who is not as robust as many of his peers when it comes to violence / fantasy / spooky stuff and it’s not always easy to find shows. Mine was desperate to watch Stranger Things as everyone at school talked about it so much. I looked at the trailers and realised there was no way he’d cope with most of it!

OntheWaves40 · 13/02/2020 19:30

Doctor Who
Dragons Den
Bake Off
Bear Grylls
SAS
Hunted
