Any Instant Pot owners out there that can help with my question?

How do I get the cooking smell out of the rubber seal? I've taken it out and washed it several times but it still smells of stew!

You can't, you need to buy some extra seals in different colours, so you can keep one for strongly smelling foods, one for rice etc, one for desserts

I found that by storing the lid the wrong way up when not using it helps. But if i get around to making pudding I would buy a second one.

Supposedly steaming a lemon in it with some water can help.

I steam a mix of water, splash of vinegar, cinnamon bark, star anise and lemon peel. I put it on steam for five minutes then do a quick release so the vent gets a good lemony steaming. And the kitchen smells wonderful too.

QueenOfTheAndals · 12/02/2020 11:14

Thanks, I'll try the vinegar and lemon steam!

I've got 3 seals - red for curry / stews, blue for porridge and original one for veg! I also store the lid upside down.

MadisonAvenue · 12/02/2020 11:21

I'm another with seals for different things and I also store the lid upside down which helps.

GiveItARestJosephine · 12/02/2020 12:47

It does seem to cut through the grease. I use up orange peel if I have it, coriander seeds, throw in the things you like the smell of Grin

QueenOfTheAndals · 12/02/2020 18:01

Alas the steaming didn't work. It's off to Amazon for a spare seal for me then!

I've heard putting it in the freezer helps but I haven't tried it

ExpletiveDelighted · 12/02/2020 18:07

It gradually fades if you leave the top upside down or the seal outside the pot. I've never noticed it affecting the taste of other foods.

sueelleker · 12/02/2020 18:08

I believe putting it in a plastic bag with sodium bicarbonate can help, although I haven't tried it. Have a look on the Facebook Instant Pot groups-they are very helpful.

MinkowskisButterfly · 12/02/2020 18:10

Freeze it, recommended in the IP groups I follow on fb.

UnaOfStormhold · 12/02/2020 18:17

I'd be careful about freezing - wouldn't it make the seal deteriorate faster? I find there's no noticeable transfer of odour from a smelly seal to most food, but I do keep a separate ring for plainer things like yoghurt/sponge/cheesecake.

worldsworststepfordwife · 12/02/2020 18:21

I’ve had my instant pot 5years plus so can categorically say stop bothering you’re wasting your time I have an inner and sealing ring for sweet and the same for savoury
