Soda stream or the next alternative?

Is soda stream the best to get or is their an alternative and where did you buy them from? Trying to cut down on some of our plastic waste if we can make fizzy drinks at home.

Love mine. Had it a couple of years now and still great. Got it for exactly the same reasons. I just have sparkling water with PLJ (the lime one)

Awesome, will take a look

Have had one for years to make sparkling water. Recently replaced it with the glass carafe one which I really like as the bottles are nice if you want to use them at the table with dinner!

MyHairIsSoapy · 13/02/2020 14:30

Have you got a link to that one?

I've always wondered about using an old fashioned soda syphon and how this compares with a soda stream, mainly for making sparkling water without plastic bottles. I'm not interested in 'pop'.

Soda streams and the replacement cartridges seem so expensive, wheras a basic soda syphon costs around £30 and the cartridges cost about 50 pence each.

BIWI · 13/02/2020 14:38

It's really expensive, but the Aarke one looks so much nicer than the sodastream ones:

Aarke

Although having said that, we have the SodaStream Crystal which isn't much cheaper - plus I bought 3 extra bottles so we always have some in the fridge - so it probably ended up costing as much!

Am i right in thinking they have discontinued most of the cola/lemonade type syrups in the UK in favour of flavoured water?

ElfrideSwancourt · 13/02/2020 14:47

Robert Dyas still sells the syrups at a very good price.

MyHairIsSoapy · 13/02/2020 14:53

Oo those aarke ones look lovely!
I still need to get over my childhood fear of them exploding and taking the house out with it

A few places sell them at present, but looking at SS's website there won't be more once this stock is gone.

Pilot12 · 13/02/2020 15:19

The syrups used to taste really nice until they went sugar free, now they taste horrible. Also you need to buy them online as the supermarkets don't sell them anymore. We don't use ours anymore, it just gathers dust in the corner!

BIWI · 13/02/2020 16:42

We use ours all the time - no longer buy any plastic bottles of sparkling water. It's great for that. All we do is add cordial to the water if we want something flavoured.

sueelleker · 13/02/2020 17:18

Lakeland sell the syrups as well.
