Gums detaching from teeth! Help!!!

I’m really panicking!

Where my gum comes up in between my two bottom teeth, the gum detached a number of months back. I have seen the dentist about it but there wasn’t really anything they could do.

I’ve just realised tonight that the gum has also detached between the next teeth along. I’m only 31 and I’m quite scared about the repercussions of this.

I googled and read that apparently it can cause your teeth to fall out. My teeth are otherwise in good condition.

Does anyone on here have any experience of this?

Did your dentist tell you you have gum disease? Gums that feel (with your tongue) or can be seen to be swollen and/or lifted can be where they are gapping due to gum disease.

As well as brushing your teeth twice a day, do you floss and use interdental brushes? In my experience, twice a day use of the interdental brushes (I use Piksters) resolved the problem I had with my gums. Just brushing doesn't cut it for me, as it doesn't get actually in between my teeth and that's when my gums started being a problem. Gums can bleed a bit to begin with, but my dentist said that was a good thing (?).

I hope you get it sorted.

You need to go full oral hygiene routine and stick to it. Gums don't regenerate so you need to stop it.

From Google, but it's standard:
Q: How can I make my gums healthier?
Use an electric toothbrush.
Brush your teeth correctly, at least twice a day.
Use a toothbrush with a tongue scraper.
Floss daily.
Massage your gums.
Use a receding gums mouthwash and a receding gums toothpaste, with fluoride.

Gengigel is really great for gums and very soothing. As pp say full on oral hygiene.

I would go back to your dentist and ask him to check it out. It might be a sign of gum disease, and you may need treatment.

Apparently I don’t have gum disease but I was told I had gingivitis which I believe is the beginnings of it? I brush with an electric toothbrush and have been flossing from time to time.

I fully recommend you start using interdental brushes.

I’d recommend a different dentist.

Are they the teepee ones? I did try but the issue is I have overcrowding of my teeth at the site of this gum issue. The teeth were perfectly straight until they decided to shift in my 20s. I physically can’t get any of those brushes between these teeth Sad

If you can't fit the little brushes between your teeth, as I can't, make sure you floss at least once a day. I do it twice a day and my gums are perfect now. Struggled with constant gingivitis previously until I gave up smoking and it returned while pregnant. I think some people are more prone than others.

I second floss. I didn’t floss regularly until I got a good dentist. By then my gums were receded and will never grow back. They were soft at the time and I was on the edge of gum disease but they’re much better now. I can’t get on with the brushes either so I floss. They bled when I started but not anymore.

Also, you need a new dentist.
