Calling all pilots - question about flying in storms

I live on a flight path near an airport and have just watched several planes wobbling in to land in strong winds, hail, lightning and squalls.

My question is for pilots or people who know a bit about flying in storms is: how do you feel about flying in “challenging” weather conditions? Is it a case of thinking “yesssss, a chance to test the machine to its hilt” or just “this will add extra admin to my day, darn it”. Or “I really don’t enjoy being a pilot when it is really rough weather but I do it anyway.”

Just curious really Smile

I'm no flight pilot but I'd have thought the only difficult part would be the landing/taking off as once the plane is up to cruising altitude it would be above the weather.
Though I think I heard today that a New York to Heathrow flight set a new speed record with the tailwind.

I think your last answer might be the closest to the opinion of many pilots..It's probably a case of accepting that some days at "the office" are harder than others and get on with it as best you can, making sure you stick to the rules and not doing anything/flying through anything you are not really comfortable about doing.
