Is this a normal amount of blood (period possibly TMI!)

I’m early 40s. Periods have got progressively heavier over past couple of years.
Last night I used a super max tampon and a super absorbent towel but woke 7 hours later having completely flooded and soaked in blood.
I’ve been feeling really dizzy the past 48 hours which may be related to this (I also have a bad cold though so unsure if it’s that).
Is this just a heavy period or should I be going to the doctor.

I’ve been to gp previously and they’ve just said that’s the way it is.

Perimenopausal flooding I would think? I've had the same over the last year and they've also been quite erratic in timing. I've just had a mirena coil fitted which should lighten them considerably (they may even stop). It's certainly not "just the way it is". I've also been told taking regular ibuprofen can lighten bleeding so that might be a good start for you?

Mention to gp and push for blood tests and ultasound,- you may need more iron, and you may have something like fibroids which make periods heavier. They can discuss options to lessen blood loss, like mirena, or tranexamic acid/ibuprofen. I am mid 40s and in similar situation, I've gone for tranexamic/ibuprofen as I have bad experience with IUDs. I have also been taking extra iron, and things have improved in last few months. Hope you can find a way to manage it and feel better

Ps the flooding is crap isn't it? I still have about 2 heavy days but not as bad as before. Friends with mirena say you can pretty much stop your period and have found relief that way

Thank you. I’ll book an appointment to discuss the coil with the gp I think.

I have fibroids so can easily fill that in 3hours at night (less during the day). It’s rubbish. Take some ibroprofen if you can. That helps
