Getting married in June and I am struggling to find something to walk in to, we have an organist and a choir.

Also what do you think to Zadok the priest for when we are signing? I like rousing songs! :)

Thanks for any input

Nimrod or Plump Uncircumcised No.4. Both Elgar pieces.

I can't remember the title but the Beethoven tune used in Lady Lynda by The Beach Boyd.

Maple Leaf Rag by Scott Joplin for something livelier than usual.

Arrival of Queen of Sheba here.
I wanted the opening bars to that song from True Romance film but the organ player rejected my request Grin

I like the suggestion of Zadok the Priest. I'd also suggest Beethoven's 9th if you want to upset any Brexiteers at the wedding!!

DrCoconut · 10/02/2020 18:52

I had the te deum prelude for processional and the minuet from the royal fireworks for recessional. Tunes that I think would be awesome are either lyngham or all in a garden green, well played and at a decent pace.

DrCoconut · 10/02/2020 18:56

Sorry, one last post. Music only for the second one, the words aren't especially weddingy.

Excellent autocorrect fail!

What about Panis Angelicus? My friend had it at his wedding, it was lovely.

Symphony no 3 by Saint Saens has an organ as the main part, I wonder if the organist can play it? It definitely fits your "rousing" brief.

Fluffythefish · 10/02/2020 20:44

Another who walked in to the Arrival of the Queen of Sheba because a: it’s epic and b: “who does she think she is, the Queen of Sheba?” Is a family saying so it was an inside joke.
Came out to Widor’s Toccata - such a joyful lovely piece of music

poshme · 10/02/2020 20:46

I walked in to our first hymn.
Praise my soul the king of heaven. Nearly wept all the way down the aisle & had to stop singing.
Widor toccata to leave.

lucillevanpelt · 10/02/2020 21:13

Arrival of the Queen of Sheba to walk in to. Perfect.

Thomas Tallis - If ye love me (during signing of the register. This was the most memorable music of the whole day for me - it was so lovely). I think the choir might like to sing it too... there is something special about an ancient a capella piece in a church setting.

This version is fab - think it has more low voices than some arrangements.

Seventyone72seventy3 · 10/02/2020 21:20

We had Charpentier Te Deum - the Eurovision theme. Grin I love Widor but unfortunately it was beyond the capabilities of our lovely organist.

ICouldHaveBeenAContender · 10/02/2020 21:28

Another one who arrived to the Jeremiah Clark Trumpet Voluntary.

We left to Ode to Joy. Still a fan Grin

What I really wanted to arrive to was the March and Entry of the Peers from Iolanthe (it was an in-joke that would have left half the congregation joining in or howling with laughter, and the other half baffled and bemused. Also, not at all church-y! Ignore me.)

ICouldHaveBeenAContender · 10/02/2020 21:34

Sortie in E Flat by Lefebure-Wely is a fabulous romp, if that's your sort of thing. More for leaving (clue's in the name) than for arriving.

(as mentioned upthread by TimeIHadANameChange!)

Runnerduck34 · 10/02/2020 21:41

I walked down the aisle to the arrival of the queen of Sheba by Handel

SparkyBlue · 10/02/2020 21:41

I had Ave Maria at the start and we walked down the aisle to ode to joy. They are the ones I remember obviously there was a lot more music during the mass. Morning has broken was played recently at a friend's wedding and it was lovely

Entrance to the Queen of Sheba

Flyingarcher · 10/02/2020 22:15

Sortie by L-w is fab. I call it the fairground music. If ye Love Me is really nice. Is it a fairly usual church choir rather than massive semi cathedral like parish church because they won't cope with Zadok the priest and it will sound awful. I would go for their suggestions. Rutters the Gaelic Blessing (garlic dressing) is nice. If you've got a really good organist then make use of them. Toccatina for Flutes is nice. I'm sat next to an organist as, desr reader, I married him, so if you want me to ask what he suggests then let me know size of church, organ, number in choir. Pointless having Widor's Toccata if it is a one manual squeak box held together with sellotape.

Husband usually plays bits of things for brides to listen to so perhaps ask your organist to do that. Are you having bells when leaving? Bear in mind bells generally drown out music in church ( pisses off the organist right royally!).

Surely those are the search terms you use on Tinder looong before you get to the wedding stage? Grin

@WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll

There’s always someone who lowers the tone on these threads Grin

HJ40 · 11/02/2020 12:31

How are you getting on OP?

I'd echo what pp have said about Widor's Toccata being amazing but do hear your organist play it.

Personally, whilst Nimrod is a beautiful piece of music, I struggle to disassociate it from Remembrance Sunday and funerals so wouldn't want it at a wedding.

It was mentioned early on, but Purcell's Trumpet Tune and Air sets a lovely upbeat but formal tone as entrance music.

TimeIhadaNameChange · 13/02/2020 09:48

@ICouldHaveBeenAContender and @Flyingarcher - I'm thrilled there are others who love the Sortie as much as I do. It's rare to find anyone who's ever heard it!

Definitely 'fairground music' - so unusual! And I know it's a 'Sortie' but I'd insist on holding up the whole procession by waiting at the back until the piece was over - there's not a chance in hell I'd be out of the church beforehand! At least if I used it at the start I'd definitely be in the room for the duration!
