Is this quote reasonable?

We've been quoted around £1500 for roman blinds and I don't know if this is about the right price. The maker is an independent, fabric is designers guild and we wanted blackout lining and a pelmet with a trim so quite a lot of work involved I would say. We've never had them made before so I don't know what a reasonable price is really, any ideas?

You'll need to tell how many and what size(s)

ZoeandChandon · 09/02/2020 09:43

For how many blinds and what size?

frillseeking · 09/02/2020 09:52

Sorry! We are looking at two blinds and they are both roughly the same size and both coming in at around £1500 each. Measurements are: width 1740mm, depth 1145mm

Each?! That seems very pricey. What's the breakdown between materials and labour?

frillseeking · 09/02/2020 10:21

The pelmet is £365, blind part £545 and the rest is fabric, trim and blackout lining. I searched through other threads and saw that John Lewis were coming in around £1300 so I thought maybe it's in line with other shops, especially as an independent but wouldn't want to get ripped off.

OMG that's a rip off!!

JKScot4 · 09/02/2020 10:27

You think £3000 for two blinds would be acceptable?? Buy ready made 🙄🙄

tara66 · 09/02/2020 10:27

Search online for ''discount blinds'' but depends on price of fabric too.

frillseeking · 09/02/2020 10:32

I'm asking if it's in line with prices for a bespoke blind. Obviously ready made would be cheaper or if we were looking at discounted fabrics. John Lewis is around £1300 so I thought in comparison this sounds in line. I know it's expensive

Really you need to get a couple of other quotes for proper comparison

BecaLime · 09/02/2020 10:44

that's very expensive, just did a quick online quote for a black out Roman blind for those sizes and it came out at £228 I have a bespoke wooden Venetian blind made for a very large window over 2m in width and it was £196 (fitted by DP)

GreenTulips · 09/02/2020 10:46

Look on 24/7 blinds online

Mine for a large window - Roman blinds are around £150

GreenTulips · 09/02/2020 10:47

Oh and local handyman fitted the last one for £10

Oldraver · 09/02/2020 10:54

I looked up Blinds2go a while back and was nowhere near that price. They are bespoke as well

Pipandmum · 09/02/2020 10:59

That's extortionate. I get blinds done for all my renovated properties and the most I've spent is about £300 each for that size with expensive fabric (maybe not as expensive as DG). Blackout and lining together about £15/m so that shouldn't bump up the price much. I know Designers Guild fabric can be pricey but if you cost out the fabric the rest is labour - blinds are pretty easy to make though the pelment may add significantly if complicated, not so much if it's just a straightforward one.
Has the maker broken down the costs? I just can't see how it's that much.
