Would you do a 2 hour round through the countryside today if you didn’t have time to?

We live in Shropshire, I’ve just woken up and the weather sounds pretty grim out there. We’re due to meet friends for lunch an hour away. It’ll mean 2 hours driving with the dc. It’s not a special meal, we do see them quite frequently. Would you still go? Is it ‘risky’ ?

I wouldn't. Even in normal rain there's always more traffic - I would say its not worth the risk getting stuck somewhere for what could potentially be a long time for a lunch. Cozy up inside and meet up another time.

I wonder how many of the people saying go have ever driven in Shropshire or are nearby and know how bad the storm is?

Shropshire is a whole county which is why I said to look online at the planned journey. And also base it on how good a driver you are.

Triglesoffy · 09/02/2020 09:47

Don’t do it!! Maybe if you were staying over, but you’ll spend the whole lunch thinking about the journey back.

Well that was easy, friend messaged to say ‘let’s take a rain check on today’ she doesn’t want us driving in this weather.

good decision. West Mercia police are indeed saying 'essential travel only' today.

explanation for the London types (and even you aren't allowed in the parks as a branch might well clonk you on the head) - there are trees down on lots of minor roads which won't be cleared for some time. There are flooded roads, ditto. If a rain band comes through (and the radar shows it will) there will be lots of crashes due to the usual too close/on the phone/too stupid reasons. This will all cause delays and overload the emergency services which means the odds of getting stuck for a long time are much higher. Oh, and we have overhead power lines too which can be brought down by trees.

so all of us who don't have to be somewhere need to stay out of the way.
