What car shall I get?????

Please help, I'm going crazy trying to decide!

Just now I have a three year old Corsa I had from new on a PCP deal, due to hand it back in the next month.

I need to reduce my monthly payments, currently pay £270 and hope to pay around about £150 a month for the next one.

I've looked at getting a pre reg Corsa, or maybe an older fiesta, but I'm going cross eyed with choice.

Has anyone got any great suggestions, what car have you got and what does it cost you per month?

I don’t have PCP but love my Toyota Aygo. A quick google suggests it would come in under your £150 budget if it would be big enough for you.

Foxes157 · 08/02/2020 18:46

I'm shocked at the amount you are paying on a PCP for a Corsa. That is a ridiculous amount I pay a lot less for my 4 year old one that I had from virtually new with negative equity from a previous car and mines a hp deal.

But I do love my Corsa it's very nippy and would get another one in a heartbeat and pre reg sounds like the best deal.

The fiesta holds it value well compared to the Corsa but frankly I'd have had to have brought a car nearly ready for its MOT for the same price and lower spec. Im not very keen on the drive either feels quite cramped but I'm tall. My head touched the roof.

An Aygo is incredibly small though with no boot and seats 4, I found it not as nippy as my 1 litre turbo.

I once had an Aygo as a courtesy car. It was like driving a tin box on wheels.

Forget PCP just do a lease. You can get ones where you only have to put one month down and the cost of something like a course I would be so small on a lease if you are never going to buy at the end of a PCP anyway it makes much more sense to lease. Get one that includes maintenance so there is no nasty surprises I have a small SUV and only pay £200 a month on a lease.

BarbaraofSeville · 08/02/2020 19:04

How about getting a loan to buy the Corsa to drive for a few more years?
There can't be much left owing as you've paid so much already. Cheaper option than signing up to a brand new car.

dillite · 08/02/2020 19:11

Sorry to high jack, but can I ask who you took your lease out from @babasaclover? I am looking at either leasing or an HP deal and could do with some recommendations.

Whynosnowyet · 08/02/2020 19:12

Mazda 2 here!!

Gogolego · 08/02/2020 21:45

For what they are corsas are expensive compared to similar cars!

I also drive an aygo I love it. I also had a Fiat 500 as a hire car and that was great. Also the Skoda citigo. These were all cheaper than a similar mileage and age corsa I test drive. But they were also cheaper

None of these are comparable with the corsa though. The equivalent Vauxhall would be the ADAM.

All so helpful, thanks guys! The reason my monthly parents are so high is that I took the finance over just three years, so I could get rid of it when the warranty was up. I could afford it then, but struggling to manage it now. I live rurally, so I've always felt anything lower than a 1.4 hasn't got enough go for the hills etc. It's just me and DD10 so a Corsa size is good.

BikeRunSki · 08/02/2020 22:02

At that size, look at a Skoda Fabia.

Kahlua4me · 08/02/2020 22:06

I am absolutely besotted with my Mini Cooper! Hope that helps 😊

ifancyagreencard · 08/02/2020 22:07

My SEL Skoda Fabia Estate (ie really decent spec) is only £160 pm on interest free PCP

ifancyagreencard · 08/02/2020 22:07

And is the best car I've ever had!

BarbaraofSeville · 08/02/2020 22:08

I have a 1 litre Fabia estate as a company car. Absolutely fine on steep hills and the motorway, providing that you use the gears properly.

PurpleDaisies · 08/02/2020 22:09

Can’t you just refinance your corsa?

Foxes157 · 08/02/2020 22:15

Honestly the 1l turbo engine is absolutely brilliant on a Corsa. I leave bigger engined cars standing.

Honestly how can anyone say £8k for a nearly new Corsa is bad value compared to other cars with a pretty good spec. They are a practical car that are spacious and can be functional for a family of 4 but are easy to park and economical to run.

purdypuma · 08/02/2020 22:41

I'd take a look at a Seat Ibiza. VW mechanicals, 5 door as standard & not badly priced. We've got 3 Seats in our family & find them to be very reliable Smile

Gohackyourself · 09/02/2020 06:53

There’s a thread on AIBU atm” car dealership gone back on offer” worth a read.
I got soo fed up with car dealerships pulling wool over eyes with prices/colours/pcp deals I decided to lease instead.
Just had a look at a certain leasing website and you can get a corsa for £165 over 3 years.
As another op said if your not going to buy the car you have had on pcp, leasing is probably better.just hand back at end, no balloon payment etc

helpasisterout · 09/02/2020 07:04

Personally I would take a loan from your actual bank to buy a car outright and pay them back at a far lower rate of interest and you own your car to do with it whatever you want at whatever time!

If you live rurally perhaps look at a Dacia step way! I've had one and it's good to have a little more clearance, it was really good value for money and so economical to run! Other than that I had a seat Ibiza which was also really good value for money for the quality I felt.

Iamnow · 09/02/2020 07:10

You have spent £10,000 on it already,

What is the price of the final payment to keep the car?

If its £2000 ish, I would put it on a 0% credit card and own the car.

You could then pay £40-£50 a month to the credit card and have £100 a month for you & DD.

UnexpectedItemInTheShaggingAre · 09/02/2020 07:13

I’ve got a seat ibiza. It’s a 1.2 ecomotive, and is surprisingly nippy. I live in a rural area in the West Country and it regularly takes me up to the peaks too.
Wonderful car.

babasaclover · 09/02/2020 10:09

This site is brilliant and not much upfront cost - I usually just do 1 month.

mencken · 09/02/2020 11:09

jesus - nearly 10 grand and you don't even own it!

£3k outright will get you something around 8-9 years old, probably a bit bigger, that will last you five years all being well. Dealers that sell cars not finance are getting rarer but they are about. Try motors.co.uk

Stygimoloch · 09/02/2020 11:59

I echo what others have said about the Seat Ibiza. Love mine. Fairly powerful. 5 door. Good size inside.
