Driving in a storm?

We have tickets for an event tomorrow that won't be effected by the weather. They are predicting high winds all day. This is about an hour away on duel carriage ways the whole way. I am worried about the drive, but am known to have anxiety over travel. Would you go? The tickets were not cheap but paid for a long time ago so not too much of a problem although probably wouldn't get another chance to go and everyone is excited for it. What would you do?

I wouldn't be anxious so of course I'd go.
Will you make life miserable for your travelling companion?

What do the weather warnings say? If they say don’t travel then don’t but otherwise I would

Depends where you are really, some areas of the country have an amber weather warning. Drive with caution really, Google driving tips for high winds. Fairly recently I was driving in not excessively high winds and my car was shifted slightly by the wind into the neighbouring lane, luckily wide lanes and noone next to me. Lots of us will have to drive tomorrow, I'm working, I might avoid my usual tree lined route!

If you go will you be worrying about the drive back? I'd have a look on the thread for Storm Ciara and see what advice is on there from the resident weather experts - there are two very capable ones.

Personally I wouldn't, we've changed our travel plans for tomorrow as they involve an area with an amber warning.

We are travelling to London so covered by the amber warning, really not sure why to donate the moment. Would just be me and 2 DC travelling. Looking at if we can get a coach, national express say that they will be business as usual.

I'd drive, taking sensible precautions. Allow plenty of time, you can always go for a coffee if you arrive early. Make sure your wiper blades are clearing the screen properly. Make sure you have plenty of petrol. If it makes you feel better, put blankets in the car plus some water and snacks. Make sure your phone is charged and you have a credit card with you.

Then drive to the conditions. If you feel unsafe, find somewhere safe to park up.

It depends where you are.

On the coast? Probably not, but in-land I would. Just make sure you leave extra time and make sure you have snacks and a blanket etc. in your car in case any roads are closed and your journey takes a long time.
