Im not in the UK so please forgive me for posting as we don't have anything like the 111 here.
Ds (6) woke up an hour ago with high temp and a headache. Temp 38.9 (his usual is 36.7). Gave him Calpol, he's had water and is sitting up watching tv, talking etc.
Half an hour later his temp is rising , headache is clearing but he has tummy pain. Still seems ok, watching tv, talking.
I've never seen his temp this high before so I'm unsure of what to do.

It's ok to give ibuprofen too with calpol if you need to. Usually work a bit better on fevers for us than calpol

Keep an eye on him - agree the paracetamol/ ibuprofen combo is usually good and effective in lowering temp. Make sure he’s not wrapped up too much and sponge with cool but not cold water to help him. Sips of water frequently. You know your son - a high temp in itself is not dangerous for a short period (38/ 39 for a day say) but if he is really out of it / hard to rouse or has a fit then that’s of course different. Some bugs just send the temp soaring as the body gifts them - scarlet fever did that for my DS. Se the dr if you are at all worried.

Thanks, they paracetamol and ibuprofen need to be spread at intervals don't they?

Alternated every 2 hours if you need to.

If the temperature itself isn't bothering him then I wouldn't medicate. (I would've for the bad headache.)

It'll be doing a job trying to fight off whatever's wrong.

If his tummy hurts then it could be a big or something, which I find painkillers generally irritate the tummy anyway so keep a bucket handy.
