Reusable nappies at night

My 5 month olds nappy leaks every night. I have tried a range of different sizes and brands.

Tonight for example i put him in a pampers baby dry pants nappy size 4 at 930pm. He was asleep for 10 but awake soaking wet by 2am

I have seen a few people recommend reusable nappies particularly bamboo ones overnight. Can anyone recommend one they have used and what do i actually need?

Bamboozle stretchies with a couple or boosters in them and an airflow wrap on top has been fab for us. Or a little lambs shaped nappy with a couple of boosters.( Both in size two for my chunky boy). The nappy lady parenting Facebook group is really helpful for questions like these.

Would i be ok with one nappy to start with? Is it possible to wash and dry in a day?

No, no possible to wash and dry in a day. You could start off with one and use it every other day.

I could never get a reusable to hold enough wee though. We use them in the day but not at night.

Are you sizing up at night? Is the nappy really full when he's soaking?

I have a 5mp DS too and he's in size 3s still. He is 25th centile for weight so maybe smaller but perhaps going up to a size 4 is the issue? I also found pampers leak at night. Aldi are much better.

I often use reusable though and tend to use a little lamb, few boosters with a blueberry wrap.

Have you tried the 4+ sized nappy (it's the same sized, but has extra absorbency)?

Are you also making sure there is at least an inch space under the bum on the babygrow/vest as not enough space there also causes leaks.

PurpleCrazyHorse · 08/02/2020 08:28

We used a Tots Bots Bamboozle with extra boosters in it and then a wrap over the top. It was pretty wet in the morning but didn't leak and I did have to get up and change her straight away. Her bum did look huge though!!!

The nappies do take a while to dry so you'd need 24hrs to dry.

Check your current nappy isn't wicking. Clothing too tight to the nappy edge can be a cause. This is also something to watch for with reusables.

Also, I found the pull up pants style nappies were rubbish for my children. I wondered whether they held less volume in order to make them less bulky for pulling up/down?? No idea but regular style nappies worked better for my son.

I used to use a pocket nappy, stuffed with a Terry square and hemp or bamboo booster for overnights. The pocket itself dired very quickly, so I could always have that ready for the next night, but we find we couldn't always get the more absorbent boosters dry by bedtime so having a few did help.

The all in one style took much longer to dry, and ther is no way I could have had those ready for the next night.

Agree with others, we never found pull up style nappies to be as absorbent as the taped ones I the same size, that or they were just too stretchy to stay in place on my skinny babies.

Double up and use two nappies.

We use bumbles with a bamboo booster (going up to 3 boosters for a bigger toddler) or a bamboozle, unboosted for now but will boost later, with an airflow wrap. Airflows are brilliant but currently very hard to get, I had mine already. The wraps will dry in a day (they are just the waterproofing!) but the bamboo nappy and boosters may not, being very absorbent. American brands are all fine in the dryer though. As a kind of in between measure, could you get a good wrap, and put it over your disposable with a few boosters/liners between the nappy and the wrap? Little lambs do triple layer boosters in packs of five, a couple of them in each nappy should help a lot.
If you decide to go the whole hog you may find you need 2-3 wraps and 3-4 nappies, plus a 10 pack of boosters, washing every other day.

Bamboozles with insert and good wrap. Bumhuggers hemp and wrap. We notions night nappy and wrap are all good. I have used a boosted pocket for older child but not recommended for heavy wetter.

Have you got a local nappy library? They would have a kit with a variety of nappies and you could try them out and find out what works for you. We use baba and boo with a bamboo booster or little lambs for overnights, but different nappies fit different babies, so you might find another brand works better for you.

Yep I've found nappy pants don't hold as much as a regular nappy. Is he wearing a vest? Make sure it's not too tight, that won't help either!

THAT90sBITCH · 09/02/2020 08:08

Thanks for all the input

He is already in size 6-9 months vests so dont think that is the issue. I bought the nappy pants to try and solve the problem thinking maybe the elasticated waist would help.

I think i will get some 4+ to try before i attempt reusables
