Annoying things people do at work

Ritascornershop · 08/02/2020 02:02

I know I’m being unreasonable, but my coworker is driving me round the bend. Some of her crimes are;

  1. every time she enters a room she shouts in a sing-songy voice “GOOD MORNING, GOOD MORNING, GOOD MORNING”, or when the interminable morning is over she shouts “hello” 3 times.

  2. wears flip-flops from the pound shop even during snow storms. Doesn’t affect me,
still annoys me (she’s loaded, she just likes them).

  3. Yells “YO! SUNSHINE” at the teenagers we work with (pretty sure it’s because she can’t remember their names - they are all too polite to complain).

  4. has 2 subjects of conversation: her adult children and meat. She is obsessed with meat and orders meat-themed cookbooks & has them sent to work. Then wants to talk to me about meat and her love for it. I’m vegetarian, it’s not a conversation I can keep up for months.

What annoying things are your coworkers doing? Go on, have a venting session.

Talks to me endlessly at 7.30am. If I don't reply in full sentences I get a barrage of more questions about OMG are you ok, what's wrong
Nothing is up, it's 7.30am and I need my cup of tea and I'm trying to get stuff done before work starts...

strawberrisc · 09/02/2020 17:49

“Good Moaning”

Every. Single. Day.

karencantobe · 09/02/2020 17:54

Eating crisps.
My colleague who I share an office with is lovely. But every day she eats a packet of crisps. I can't stand the noise or the smell.

eyesbiggerthanstomach · 09/02/2020 17:56

Colleagues who mark every single email high importance.

karencantobe · 09/02/2020 17:57

Also had an admin worker who when she had a cold would come in looking miserable and sit at the desk like a martyr with lemsips and tissues, Other staff would tell her to go home, and she would always reply oh no I can't, I am far too busy. I just used to ignore her, and she would go home if she really was not feeling well. But I had no time for the martyr act.

karencantobe · 09/02/2020 17:58

Line manager who insisted on being copied in to every single email I sent. Of course she never had time to read them so would miss things I actually needed her to read and then would accuse me of not telling her things. Just let me copy you in on emails that you actually need to know about. I left.

dudsville · 09/02/2020 18:06

Hot desking, we're all quietly getting in with our work. Endless staff pass through, and you'll just never guess what they say, go on, you'll never believe it... "ooh, it's quiet in here!". Stfu. Idiot. Couldn't be more obvious and unnecessary.

PhoneTwattery · 09/02/2020 18:10

Karens. All of them.

RetreatingWeasels · 09/02/2020 18:13

I sit in what must be the noisiest office in the entire world Angry. Woman near me says out loud every single thought that crosses her mind, as well as general chit chat which she broadcasts down the entire office. A colleague 4 blocks of desks away has noted her debit card number and details as she was shouting them down the phone.

The rest of them chat, and visit each-other at the desks all day long. I do wonder how they get anything done. I get in at 7.30 and they are all in full flow.

The other major irritant at the moment is coughing. There is someone nearby who has had a barking/hacking cough since November which is no better. Now it's flu season there are about 3 others nearby who have all got coughs, so between the lot of them it's like trying to work on a TB ward. We are allowed to WFH, so I wish they would do so, and give the rest of us some peace.

EggysMom · 09/02/2020 18:17

Co-workers who think it's okay to refresh their antiperspirant whilst sat at the desk. It's not. Go into the toilets, into a cubicle, remove your top properly, and do it there. It's not like our toilet breaks are monitored or anything.

fastliving · 09/02/2020 18:17

Noisy constant snacker (luckily she has left).

The next colleague: thickest person in the world.
Still acts like it's her first day and seems constantly surprised that she will have to do the same tasks as she did yesterday - and can I show her again? This has been going on months. I have no idea if she really is as stupid as she makes up or she is on a massive wind-up.

Luckily everyone else is nice!

MissCalamity · 09/02/2020 18:22

I think we've got off quite lightly in our new shared office space, we have one whistler & it's driving everyone mad but people are too scared to say anything!

Snowpatrolling · 09/02/2020 18:31

Pen clicking, makes me so fucking mad!
I will smash your damn face in if you dont stop. Lazy Lauren who no one likes. You can’t do your job properly so piss off. Everyone’s made it clear your useless but your too thick to bloody take it the right way. Asshole!

TimeTravellersHat · 09/02/2020 18:37

Thankfully not now - but in the past......colleagues that over share.

I have no problem with getting to know people but there is a LINE.

I DO NOT need to know (on a daily basis)....

  • what time you went to sleep,
  • what time your children went to sleep
-what times your various children woke up through the night
  • what time various children woke in the morning
  • what your children said in the morning
  • what your children ate for breakfast and what their food allergies are
  • how your children are getting on in school (in expansive detail)
  • the names of your neighbours and how they are related to X person in your local area (whom I do not know)
  • everything your husband says/does

Nor do I need to see your "Team X" (X being family name) posts all over social media.

Oversharing - argh!

BackInTime · 09/02/2020 18:42

YANBU Although given that many of us spend more hours with our co workers than our family is it any wonder they can get in our nerves.

Worst offenders in my office are noisy eaters and people who talk really really loudly on the phone so you cannot hear yourself think. The ones who ask the same questions everyday. Oh and the one who has to speak to her DP several times a day about inane stuff that could wait until after work Angry

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 09/02/2020 18:45

Chronic CHRONIC pass the buck, why doesn't someone else do it culture that stems from a lazy boss who supports lazy attitudes

Literally on Friday, was doing a boring, but short task, with someone.

"I'll be back, I'm just going to the toilet"

40 minutes later, task complete, she was sitting in the break room watching telly. Nothing will be said to her about it.

I'm leaving in 2 weeks, and it can't come soon enough

ItsHAVEnotOF · 09/02/2020 18:48

“Good Moaning”

Every. Single. Day

I do this (not every day though admittedly)
I pretend I am the policeman from ‘Allo Allo’
Occasionally I’ll add on ‘I was just pissing’

We have an office whistler! Ggggggggrrrrrr! Every day, all day. Goes right through me.

ItsHAVEnotOF · 09/02/2020 19:38

@PhoneTwattery

I have bad nose, I really trood but I cun’t.

Oldraver · 10/02/2020 09:35

We have a woman who every morning walks though the canteen and turns off the lights... while everyone is sat reading

Ritascornershop · 10/02/2020 14:14

@Oldraver I had the opposite problem at a previous worksite. Big windows, loads of natural light, often worked on my own, and a coworker would come in and flick the fluorescents on. You’d think people would ask, either way!

What annoying things are your coworkers doing?

Turning up

ToDoListAddict · 23/02/2020 20:20

I don't know why it irritates me so much but my colleague has tagged every single person we work with, on Skype. So she gets a notification every time someone logs in or out of Skype. Even our HR manager! Why does she need to know this? She's not a senior to anyone and our boss is very flexible with our working hours.

Every time I work from home, the second I log in, I get a Skype message with "Morning Sunshine Smile"! Why? What's the point? Nothing work related at all, she just wants to know I'm actually at my laptop.
