Pram he'll too long for carry cot, too young for buggy

Someone help. DS is only 11 weeks but he's going to be a giant. He's got about an inch clearance above his head in the carrycot part of his pram. The buggy seat says that it can't be used before 6 months and it can't be laid completely flat. I'm panicking because it won't be long before he fits in his carrycot.
We have the Cosatto wow and I don't think it's abnormally short or anything like that, he's on the 98th percentile for length so it's a baby issue not a pram issue. His wee feet have even started to poke out the bottom of his car seat. I often use the car seat attachment for the pram if I'm just quickly nipping into the supermarket but we have a wedding next month that we've all been invited to.
Should I just lie the buggy as flat as I can? He can Control his head and recently he's started controlling his chest and shoulders too. Is there another plan I'm missing?

We had exactly the same problem albeit we have an icandy not cosatto. I just put my son in the main seat and reclined it, not fully as he wanted to see the world not be lying flat. As you say he had enough head control to be comfortable like this.

IIRC he was 13/14 weeks when we changed, (born in March and changed to proper seat fathers day ie June)

Hope that helps x

We had the cosatto giggle and traveled for a wedding when ds was about 4 months old and didnt have room the the carrycot in the car!

We laid the seat as flat as possible and placed a foldednup blanket (could use a small pillow) under the bum part to essentislly make it flat. We didnt use it like that everydsy... but it would solve your problem.

Have you physically tried him in the bigger seat? Do you have a car seat insert you could use in it to ensure he was snug?

The issur with pram seats is when they are used sat up right and babies have inadequatr head control to maintain a safe airway. Also the position of their spine.

We had exactly the same. I can’t even remember the name of the pram combo we had. We just put DD in the buggy but as flat as possible. She’s always been a 98% child too!

Can you get some kind of newborn insert for the buggy seat? We got one for the Uppababy Cruz when DC grew out of the bassinet at 3 months. It had a wedge to keep them flat in the seat and a support for the head.

My eldest didn't even join the height graphs until she was around 2 (and that was using the boys charts not the girls!) but our pushchair/pram had the carrycot bit but also the pushchair bit lay completely flat so it wasn't an issue for us. She never really fitted in a moses basket though, right from birth that was too short. Sorry that isn't very helpful but I think it is more a problem with your pram/pushchair to be honest.

nonicknameseemsavailable · 07/02/2020 21:22

sorry when I say didn't join the graphs, I mean she was off the top of them

Thanks @getyourarseoffthequattro that looks really good, not sure if I can see one that will fit bit I'll keep looking.
Once DH gets home from work I'm going to have a play about with all the different angles and see how they look. I did think about just picking up a pushchair that's suitable from birth but the idea of having him face away from me is freaking me out (probably more than it should).

I think there is a wedge insert for the Quinny Zapp with the front and rear facing seat.

getyourarseoffthequattro · 07/02/2020 21:39

You can get flat parent facing ones, a mamas and papas sola or a joie chrome off the top of my head. Therell be plenty others.

Having the same problem but my baby is 9 weeks old and nowhere near the 90th centile for height (last measurement he was around the 50th). Pram manufacturers seem to be making prams wider than longer and mine, in particular, expects me to use the Cybex lie flat car seat as a stop-gap in-between pram and pushchair.

CourtneyB123 · 07/02/2020 21:48

My son was the same, I just tilted the pram ever so slightly so he could see but wasmt not upright nor laying flat. Onviously took carrycot out I had the orb then, just got a basic pram now he is fully mobile

amazedmummy · 07/02/2020 23:10

This is as flat as it goes, his wee bum and feet would be quite out of line

Might be the angle but looks flat (as in fully tilted back) to me but just bucket seat shaped? In which case you need a wedge to go under the bum to flatten baby out?

MindyStClaire · 08/02/2020 07:44

Do the Google. Most UK sites say they should use the carry cot to 6 months. US sites say 3 months for the same buggies - the regs clearly differ but the products don't.

We moved DD into the buggy bit at about 4 months and she was much happier. I'll be moving number two quicker if they hate the carry cot too.

Baby may actually be happier sitting up a bit, see how stable he seems in the seat ; does he sit in a bouncer at an incline?

amazedmummy · 08/02/2020 08:57

Thanks, I thought about a wedge but that would more of less lift him out of the seat. I think he might be ok in it, he does sit in a bouncer that's at an incline and he's perfectly happy. He loves a nosy about. He'll be 4 months almost exactly when we go away.

We moved my DS out of the carrycot at about 4 months I think. He hated being flat, was getting too big for the carrycot and had really good head control. I just laid right back if he was sleeping and got him out regularly if he was awake.

MsChatterbox · 08/02/2020 09:08

I had the same issue as my son was actually above the chart not even on it for height! I just moved him to the puschair seat no other choice. I did also wear him in a carrier a lot which was great for getting fit as of course he was very heavy too!

amazedmummy · 08/02/2020 09:13

Of course @MsChatterbox I'm taking his sling, hadn't even thought of that.
