Bake Sale Cancelled - Now What?

SeaScape98 · 07/02/2020 18:09

Hi,

I have baked a lot of cakes (i.e. 96 cupcakes and 60 cookies) for a bake sale that was supposed to be happening on Sunday. Due to the weather forecast this is now look as though it might be as it was due to be outside.

I really want to make the money back that I spent on ingredients (about £50).

My question is, if it is cancelled:

What can I do with all the cakes? and how can I make at least some of the money back.

Can you advertise on FB?

TheMemoryLingers · 07/02/2020 18:13

Sell them at work? Profits to whatever your workplace's favourite charity is?

PurpleDaisies · 07/02/2020 18:14

Advertise on local Facebook?

Can you freeze them?

Apackoflips · 07/02/2020 18:15

Can some of them be frozen?

Isadora2007 · 07/02/2020 18:16

Were you going to make the money back from the bake sale?

PersonaNonGarter · 07/02/2020 18:16

Are they all made? If not stop baking!

Freezer some and give some away.

Jozen · 07/02/2020 18:16

Sell them on Facebook Marketplace with an explanation.
I'm not sure of the rules and regs or selling food online though, would be worth checking.

Similar thing to a local woman around here, she just wanted rid of them though. She put them up cheaply but I don't think she shifted them sadly as she updated later advertising them for free.

The cookies should definitely freeze.

OralBee · 07/02/2020 18:18

My answer to ‘what can I do with all the cakes?’ Would be ‘put Netflix on and have a bloody good weekend’ but that doesn’t help much with the ‘making your money back’ part (though you would probably gain a few pounds WinkGrin).

SeaScape98 · 07/02/2020 18:41

Thanks for the responses (:

The cookies would probably freeze, and the cupcakes I haven't iced yet could too! I hadn't even thought of that.

@Isadora2007 I was, but only the ingredient money, the rest was going to my Hockey Club, who the bake sale was for (:

I suppose technically I need to make back less than £0.50 per cake/cookie, which doesn't sound too unreasonable.

freeze & thaw for next cake sale?

SeaScape98 · 07/02/2020 18:42

@OralBee

That does sound like a good idea, I'm sure I could easily polish off a few but they are quite rich! Not sure I could manage all of them though!

Definitely freeze what you can, it doesn’t harm the taste.

2catsblack · 07/02/2020 18:46

This is happened to me before when I have baked for charity events. If the event is to be re-organised then I would freeze. Most things freeze - cakes last best, buns have been ok after 4 months ish etc. I have frozen biscuits etc. If not given the money is going to charity could you approach local businesses etc - asking for a donation of so much per item?

BaolFan · 07/02/2020 19:19

You can freeze the cookies and if the cupcakes haven't been frosted yet they can go in the freezer as well.

FruityWidow · 07/02/2020 19:21

Is there nowhere for the bake sale to be moved indoors?

woodencoffeetable · 07/02/2020 19:27

fruity
have you seen the weather forecast?
looks like it's unwise to step foot outside on sunday.

EstebanTheMagnificent · 07/02/2020 19:46

Iced cupcakes can be frozen.

Laurendelight · 07/02/2020 19:51

Freeze all un iced cakes and biscuits or can you Facebook the group and sell them that way? People might want your goodies and pay you.
