Has anyone used a Go Henry card for pocket money ?

As above really ! Or any other similar type cards ? I'd like dd to start managing her own money a little bit and pocket money in a money box doesn't seem quite right any more. I'd like her to be able to access it so not into a savings account. Shes 10. I dont really know if they are good or not. Thanks !

Yeah used them for my three for years. Great little app. Moving on to banking now though

Yes we do. We don't use it effectively but it's a good system to introduce money and rewards for jobs/ behaviour

Yes, my DD has a Nimbl. Loves it and feels very grown up - she’s 10.

I want to do something like this for my two, 10 and 8. I don't like the charges for withdrawing cash but normal kids accounts don't seem to offer cards below 11.

My ds is desperate for a go Henry card, having seen an advert for one. He's 9. Seems quite expensive though, I'd love to know if it's worth the money.

We have a Go Henry. It's ace! DD (just turned 10) loves it, it's so easy for her to use and see how much she has to spend. We used to have the 'magic' fiver that would be spent several times over but now she can she clearly. I like the fact I can control the limits and I get app notifications when she spends.

We used cash up until age 11 and then got them a high street bank account with a card. No way was I paying around £3 per month just to give pocket money

FleurNancy · 06/02/2020 22:20

All 3 of my DC have them (aged 11, 8 and 6). It's brilliant. The app is great and so user friendly with lots of different functions. My eldest was using his to buy £6 worth of sweets after school (min £5 spend in local shop...) so we've switched off the high street function, he can still get cash out an ATM or buy online (can toggle each of those off v easily). Spending limits are brill, the ability to save is easy and it really helps us keep an eye on money they get from relatives etc, sometimes cash, sometimes direct, sometimes via our accounts. I couldn't rate it more. Our eldest is technically eligible for a bank account now but no burning need to switch yet.

I'm the same as demented pixie. Waited until 11 and they have a bank account with debit card, I transfer pocket money monthly so they get used to budgeting. I thought gohenry was a little steep when banks are free.

DeltaAlphaDelta · 06/02/2020 22:26

My 12 year old loves his. Hes had it a few years, and its a good way for him to earn pocket money and see the rewards. Hes quite good at saving so it soon builds up. We are in no rush for a proper bank account yet. Its worth the few quid a month it costs.

CalleighDoodle · 06/02/2020 22:29

Mine have them new this month. They have chores set up to earn extra money on top of their baseline pocket money. They love them. And grandad is a sucker and keeps giving them extra for doing things like reciting times-tables over the phone. He didnt transfer me any money when i recited times-tables at him last week...

Longdistance · 06/02/2020 22:37

I was thinking about the Go Henry card for dd1, but at 10, nearly 11, I think we’ll wait for a debit card for her.

Paddingtonthebear · 06/02/2020 22:39

Rooster card! Cheaper than Go Henry at £24.99 for 12 months. I have a £10 referral code if anyone wants it

Pipandmum · 06/02/2020 22:42

Go Henry is good if you want to monitor what they are spending on, and dictate how they can spend it (daily limits, weekly limits, where they can spend). But once they are a bit more mature switch to a bank- we use Santander 123 account so they earn interest on the balance.

wonderstuff · 06/02/2020 22:43

My dd got hold of my password and transferred £300 quid to herself. I cancelled them after that. When we were using them I found them a bit temperamental, they'd randomly not work in certain shops which was super annoying. In the end we got a couple of notebooks and kept track of the kids spending money that way.

Howmanysleepsnow · 06/02/2020 23:17

My ds lost his. I can’t cancel it as we don’t know the number so it’s wasting £3 a month
