Best place to listen to audible books?

Cottoneyed12 · 06/02/2020 13:19

I downloaded the app audible.

It’s £7.99 a month and allows 1 download per month of an audible book.

I’m really enjoying it but I listen to it too quickly and need to wait another month for the next book or pay £10+ for another book.

Is this the best way or does anyone have any other suggestions.

Thank you.

I started audible at Christmas , my DP bought me credits and headphones as a present ( fabulous pressie imo)
I buy credits 3 for £18 , I also buy the daily deals
I did buy quite a few when they were 2 for one offers and also a large selection on "sale" between Christmas and new year at £3 each , I would guess there are often sales on

I mix it up with library downloads and BBC sounds. I try and hold off for the 2 for 1 sales as well and I pick things that have a good length.

I do a mixture of returning books and getting more.
Only get long books.
If I'm buying extra credits I buy the 3 credits for £15.

I read somewhere (was it on here I can't remember) that if you return your books the author doesn't get paid. Can anyone confirm if that's the case?

ChessieFL · 07/02/2020 08:03

I personally think it’s very cheeky to return a book that you have listened to in full. You wouldn’t return a read paperback to a bookshop, so why do it on Audible? Fair enough if you listen to a few minutes and really not enjoying it/ can’t get on with the narrator, but returning something you were able to listen to all the way through doesn’t feel right to me. I know audible allow it but be aware that if you do this a lot they may remove the ability to do it or you may have to contact customer services. I have also heard that the author doesn’t get paid for returned books but I don’t know if it’s true.

I agree, it’s a bizarre suggestion. If you can’t afford a book then you use the library. It’s also fairly stupid. If amazon think you’re taking the piss on returns, or even reviews, they will close your account. There are plenty of cases of this happening. Then no more access to any audible or kindle content you haven’t currently got downloaded, no using Prime - if that’s your thing, and no ordering anything else from amazon.

Yes I agree that it's shitty to return titles you've finished and enjoyed, I couldn't do that. I do return them if the narrator or story don't suit me though, usually after an hour or less of listening.

Ooh another thing about Audible- you can share your account with your family! DH and DS's have the app on their phones logged in to my account and we share titles that way. Smile

There's lots of freebies on audible, also special offers for 99p etc
