Pros and cons of dual (EU country + British) citizenship post-brexit?

Can someone tell me the advantages and disadvantages in all aspects of life by having a dual citizenship (British + a E.U. country)? In terms of rights, stability in Britain, costs of application and passport renewal, etc. compared with being a purely British citizen?

I am currently an E.U. citizen, considering British citizenship alongside to get dual citizenship.

Thank you

Only disadvantage I can think of is that you have to pay two sets of passport renewal fees. Plus the initial fees for gaining UK citizenship.

Or if Britain goes to war with your EU country you'll get locked up in an interment camp.

(The second one is a joke btw).

The only real negative I can see at first glance is the passport fees thing. I'm a Brit considering taking on a second nationality (now that it's finally allowed here) to cement my status in my adopted country after Brexit. I can only see the positives. It's either that or give up my British passport but weirdly that feels too much like losing my identity.

I wish I qualified for as EU country passport, it would be worth the cost.

I think I might qualify for an Israeli passport, but other than ease of travel into Israel itself, I can’t see any benefits of having one.

Does your home country allow dual nationality? Not all countries do.

Thanks everyone so far. Is it only like a £100 more to renew an additional passport at each expiry usually?

Yes I believe both my EU country and UK permit dual citizenship.

warmsausage - any chance you’d qualify for a German one?

WarmSausageTea · 07/02/2020 13:59

@BillieEyeFish sadly not. I do have Portuguese heritage, but it's going back at least 200 years, so it's probably too old and too tenuous.
