Scotland finance minister inappropriate messages to 16 year old?

anicebag · 06/02/2020 07:26

He allegedly sent texts to 16 year old boy saying he was cute and inviting him out to a day out. Is this inappropriate? How would we feel if it was a 16 year old girl? He announces Scotland's new budget today.

This thread is a good illustration of how Mackay became complacent about who he would target.

peanutbuttermarmite · 07/02/2020 15:05

I read today DM has a 15 year old son - hard to understand the mindset.

nibdedibble · 07/02/2020 15:40

I really feel for his kids. To find out your dad's gone from leading role in the government to predator of just-legal boys...that's a mindfuck.

KatyCarrCan · 07/02/2020 16:19

I'm an SNP member. I'd have no qualms at all about going to the press with a story like this. Everyone should know if an elected representative is acting like a groomer. Not least, because it may encourage other victims to come forward and it starts a conversation about how it's grooming and why it isn't acceptable (which apparently we still need to be having because lots of people are making excuses and minimising).

As for the SNP head of comms, he's a former Daily Record editor who was instrumental in the 'vow' that was the centre plank of the 'No' campaign. Excellent at his job but not a dyed-in-the-wool SNPer.

nibdedibble · 07/02/2020 16:25

Oh god that Vow.

Sorry, not relevant to the thread but you reminded me of it. Grin

I was thinking earlier, I am a left-leaning voter and also wouldn't hesitate to do what was necessary to stop this. I honestly cannot bear politics in Scotland - there's no possibility for a proper discussion, when half the people involved descent immediately into tribalism and you have no idea who lies and who doesn't. But you know their aim in to nip the heid of some person who wronged them way back when. It is exhausting and childish and is getting us absolutely nowhere.

KatyCarrCan · 07/02/2020 17:22

Some issues should be above tribalism arguably everything should be but I realise that's wishful thinking Grin

Grooming. Safeguarding. Abusing public office, etc - should be called out regardless of who is doing it and which party they belong to.

I don't know how anyone could read the messages DM sent in all their relentless, gaslighting, emotionally manipulative detail and not think that person should not be allowed near children and they shouldn't be allowed to hold public office when they use that office to try to entice teens into face-to-face meetings.

SNP supporters trying to minimise it are not helping the party. . . or Scotland.

nibdedibble · 07/02/2020 17:24

Totally agree (with no typos this time hopefully)

beepbeeprichie · 07/02/2020 17:28

Another victim of his harassment has already come forward, and now rumours that Sturgeon banned him from drinking at SNP functions due to his behaviour. Ffs. What is actually wrong with people?!?

Dreamersandwishers · 07/02/2020 17:35

@derxa I’ve heard of a deception too and I am way in the Styx. Thought it was just Footballers and actors that resorted to such tactics, allegedly

anicebag · 07/02/2020 17:59

Surely the deception is just a mean spirited load of crap?

anicebag · 07/02/2020 18:00

Shit- alleged deception.

peanutbuttermarmite · 07/02/2020 18:04

It’s sad too - did you read that DM came from a terrible family background, made a success of his life and now his kids have this collapse to navigate?

KatyCarrCan · 07/02/2020 18:12

Oh, come on, you can't mutter about deceptions and alleged deceptions without saying what it is. Surely it would be worth being banned to expose it? Wink

reginafelangee · 07/02/2020 18:21

@JKScot4
I wouldn't hold much stead in quoting the Sun, an openly biased ‘newspaper’ who toady to the Tories.

Except The Sun in Scotland are pro-SNP and pro-independence.

What about the other story that I quoted from The Herald which is also pro-Indy and pro-SNP? Is that also part of the conspiracy?

Dreamersandwishers · 07/02/2020 19:14

@KatyCarrCan, it’s on the internet. Think Super_; think heart or centre of Scottish Government , and get yourself to Google . ( other search engines are available ) . Allegedly.
