Redundant and what to do now...

Posted the below in work section last week, did get some very good advise but more comments would be much appreciated.

"I've been made redundant today as the company I worked for has gone in to liquidation. Very upset, I knew business was though but we were making some adjustments so thought we would pull through.
So the bottom line is I'm not getting paid tomorrow and will have to claim any outstanding wages and redundancy pay from the government. Has anyone got any experience/advice of this?"

I was working there for a long time, and as far as I know a liquidation company will give all ex employees a CN number to claim what we are owed. It's been a miserable week, not much sleep and trying to get my cv together, which I haven't had done for over 15y.

In the meantime, any suggestions what I can do to earn a few quids, already eBaying btw, and how to get my cv in order?

Experienced this not too long ago and (colleagues picked up work surprisingly quickly: I was super negative about my own ability to get a new job but got stuck in and made some applications and got lucky in the end
If you haven't applied for a job for 15 years, you might need to get up to date with filling applications /doing personal statements - nowadays you need to be very pedantic about demonstrating how you meet the criteria in the job description and personal spec. It doesn't matter if you don't meet every single thing listed but you do need to explicitly tell them about the items that you do match. In order to be 'fair' they often shortlist candidates against how many of the criteria they meet - if you don't tell them you have each item, they won't score you for that skill

Dh has been made redundant and has visited careers advise services for cv assistance (and approached the local college who have some free courses for people who are out of work).
Good luck.

You need to register with the job centre, you will find out if you are entitled to job seekers allowance and also it will keep your NI contributions covered which is important for the future for your pension.

You start the application online and will then get an appointment for a face to face interview at the job centre. Don't go straight to the job centre they will just send you home to apply online.
