Learning to drive?

Is anyone currently learning to drive as an older learner? Or just learning to drive in general I guess.

I’m 32 and have had 2 lessons so far, and wondered if anyone else was in the same position so I had someone to chat too? I feel like I’ll never get it and all of my friends passed years ago so don’t really understand how I’m feeling.

I passed in my 40s. I took 4 months. Two tests. You can do it :)

I had loads of lessons can’t even remember how many. Five tests I think it was ( I’ve blocked it out). You’ll be fine just keep going.

You can do it! I'm 35 and passed my test on the 3rd go Confused in November. It felt like such a slog and the anxiety was overwhelming at times. Got there in the end though and you will too! Just stick at it, the confidence will come. I'm now driving in the dark, in all weathers. Driving on my own without an instructor or anyone in the car was scary at first but I've just started to get used to it and relaxing with the radio on. I'm enjoying the independance!

I too learned to drive a bit later in life. I struggled with driving lessons, absolutely hated being watched and doing the same manoeuvres over and over again. I thought about giving up so many times but I'm so glad I didn't. I love the independence of being able to go wherever I please, whenever I please. It's one of the best things I've ever done and I guarantee all the pain is worth it. Getting an instructor you feel comfortable with definitely helps, as does regular and consistent practice. Best of luck!

@Openroad that’s one of my issues and why i’m nervous I think, I hate being watched whilst I’m doing something, I much prefer to just get on with by myself.

My lessons seem to be going well though and I can actually see myself being able to drive in the future which is something I never really felt with my old instructor.

I’m not too nervous about my theory because I have a decent memory and am pretty good at taking written exams. It’s the practical that I’m worried for purely because of nerves.

Just got back from my lesson and I think it was my worst one yet but it wasn’t so bad that i feel like i’ll never get it.

It was also snowing whilst I drove so that was an experience Grin

I pick up my own little car next weekend, so I can get some extra practise in with either my husband or my parents. I sometimes feel like a week between lessons is a bit too long.

Got my own little car yesterday; and went out for a drive today with my dad, was nice to get some extra practise in other than my lessons.
