Where in live in Manchester with a baby?

I am hoping for some suggestions on areas in Manchester that would be good for a couple having their first baby.
We both work in the city centre full time so need a shortish commute so we can get home in time for nursery closing.
Ideally we want to spend max 400k and be close to a nursery, good primary school and tram/train station. Any ideas?

I wouldn’t say Chorlton is studenty at all. It’s well off the magic bus route which is the holy grail of student areas. It has a lot of young creative types but not many students!

Monton is walking distance from Eccles and patricroft stations (train, not tram)

Another vote for Urmston, we love living there. Community feel, lots of nice families around, great schools and Grammar is an option.

Lots of activities for kids, good sports club, dance schools, refurbed leisure centre about to reopen, nice library. Bars and restaurants and an Altrincham style market in development.

Commuting isn't perfect as no Metrolink, but Trafford Park line is opening in the Spring with a park and ride. Train station and they're hopefully sorting out the Northern Rail problems. There are express buses too.

I personally believe Urmston has been a bit cheaper due to not being on the Metrolink yet, otherwise it's would be much more expensive.
