Rainforest cafe - is it worth it?

Thinking of taking DD to the rainforest cafe for a birthday treat as we are going to London for the day to see a show. Is it worth the quite high prices or should we not bother? If the latter, where would you recommend taking a 6 year old for a special lunch in the west end? Thanks!

I been been twice with my dc. Both times we were seated near moving animals so that added to the experience. If we hadn’t been near them I would have been disappointed. My dc loved it. Food nothing special but ok.

ahhRats · 05/02/2020 18:36

Not worth the trip.

The kids liked it but I felt it was very down at heel. The floor is so worn it's very slippery. The animals mainly look dreadful.

The food wasn't too bad, but the service was poor.

BillieEyeFish · 05/02/2020 18:48

It’s quite dated and the food was a complete rip off.

Mine enjoyed the ice cream parlour at Fortnum and Mason but be sure to book.

KittyLane1 · 05/02/2020 19:00

Nope! Food is below even Brewers Fayre standard, very dated now and toilets are vile. Service was non existent and £200 for 3 adults and a child. Avoid!

turkeyboots · 05/02/2020 19:05

No. It's so expensive and packed and food was sub McDonalds.

RaisinsRuinEverything · 05/02/2020 19:05

Mediocre and overpriced food. Very noisy - it’s a popular place for birthdays and you’ll hear other diners singing Happy Birthday every 2 minutes! I think kids would enjoy it though.

DragonMamma · 05/02/2020 19:07

Awful. Wouldn’t go again. Poor food, service and ££££!

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 05/02/2020 19:09

Would they like Chinatown?

Raspb3rry · 05/02/2020 22:27

I think that's a pretty unanimous no!! Thanks for the feedback, definitely won't go!

Ooh yep Chinatown is a good idea, she would love the lanterns etc. Thanks!

Fortnum and mason sounds good too. How child friendly are they?

Never been to Rainforest cafe but Hard Rock cafe at Piccadilly Circus was a massive hit with my 7 year old recently. Though he is very into guitars, drums and rock music!

Ginfordinner · 05/02/2020 22:46

I have only been to the one at the Animal Kingdom in Florida, and it was very noisy.

kathryn77 · 05/02/2020 22:46

It also smells funny. Think it is the water combined with other special affects and it smells weird in there. Very off putting. Needless to say my kids enjoy it. I’m just there cringing at the price, mediocrity and smell

BillieEyeFish · 05/02/2020 23:01

F&M are very child friendly! I think they might even have done a free piece of birthday cake with a candle in the ice cream. My coffee cup had a mini ice cream holder with a mini cone in.

midwestfornow · 05/02/2020 23:31

My dc at that age loved their first visit, I think it was Disney world.
We went again in Niagara Falls last year and all decided it was dreadful.
The food is very expensive for what you get, happily my dc have our grown it.

We went about 15 years ago, attracted because they said they were allergy friendly, but they couldn't do the meals without cheese - I think it was just ready meals in a restaurant. It was grim. I wouldn't go back

Chinatown sounds good, or what about afternoon tea?

Grumpasaurus · 05/02/2020 23:41

I wouldn't go there, it's awful.

I agree re: f&m ice cream parlour.

I would also really recommend Bill Wyman's Sticky Fingers.

Lampan · 05/02/2020 23:51

The Science Afternoon Tea at the Ampersand Hotel might be worth looking into? Cakes like planets, dry ice and ‘excavating’ a chocolate dinosaur. Not cheap but memorable!

okiedokieme · 06/02/2020 00:01

Was quite poor though 10 years ago now. My kids loved Chinatown at that age, I hear it's very quiet at the moment!
