Bloody dry skin on face, help!

Hi everyone!

My dry skin is fully driving me up the wall and I wonder if anybody can help? It might be the time of year but I'm finding that I need to exfoliate my skin every couple of days at the moment or it just dries up and cracks, particularly around my chin and to the sides of my nose. It looks unsightly and I keep picking at it which is also incredibly attractive!

I started using The Ordinary's AHA Skin Peeling Solution about two years ago and it really, really works to clear my skin of spots. But I'm finding that I'm having to use it more and more frequently because within a few days of use, I've got a load of dry skin that needs sloughing off. Yeurch.

I use Olay every day and I experiment with using different moisturisers directly following the use of the skin peel.

I feel like I need a heavy, heavy moisturiser that will give my skin an enormous drink. Any recommendations?

No advice but following for advice as my skin is like a desert too. Fed up of it and it looks awful when I put make up on it goes all flaky and cracked.

Exfoliating lots can make it loads worse, I have fallen into this trap before!

I would use on oil based cleanser, then a gentle foaming cleanser. Then you can use a really hydrating moisturiser, then oil.

This is the moisturiser I use and it’s really good: www.laroche-posay.co.uk/toleriane-riche

Also have a look at Korean sleeping packs, like this: www.amazon.co.uk/Tonymoly-Magic-Banana-Sleeping-TonyMoly/dp/B00RC9X11M/ref=mp_s_a_1_5?keywords=sleeping+pack&tag=mumsnetforu03-21&qid=1580904325&sr=8-5

Keep going with the moisturising. But I would also suggest a drs appointment to get a derm referral, my vvv dry skin was caused by psoriasis which now it’s treated is lovely and hydrated again.

Oh and the skin peels do cause flaky dry skin while you are ‘purging’ so if you keep using it, it will get better, but usually looks gross for a while beforehand!

Weirdly Teddy I have that TonyMoly cream! I've never used it though so I'll get it out. I buy tonnes of stuff from Korea (attracted by the packaging) and I hardly use any of it.

I've just slathered this on to see if it helps slowageing.co.uk/products/essential-facial-essence but will look into a good oil cleanser and the moisturiser you recommended. Thank you :)

Read the reviews. Works a treat for me

I use a brand called Embryollise lait Creme concentre (a french brand!) Sorry not sure how to link. It's the best moisturiser I have ever used and I've tried a few. Available on beauty bay, Amazon.

Do you use hyaluronic acid serum? The ordinary does a good cheap one and it is specifically to retain moisture. I love it.

I could've posted this, OP. I'm sure it's worse this year for some reason. I've started using Weleda Skin Food after a recommendation on MN, bought from Holland & Barrett. It's very, very thick, almost lardy but seems to be doing the trick. My skin just devours it. It's based on natural ingredients including sunflower, calendula and camomile which seems to have calmed the skin on my face and neck down as it was really sore and angry for a while.

I'm thinking of going back to Liz Earle's Cleanse and Polish but I've heard, as a PP mentioned, that exfoliating is counter-productive?
Also experimenting with a humidifier in the bedroom at night.
Sick of having face dandruff! Angry

This stuff is as cheap as chips, made with natural ingredients, no scent and doesn't make my sensitive, dermatitis-prone skin flare up. They do a day & night version and both are fantastic at this time of year when my face dries out.

Would recommend using Child Farms moisturiser (the one with a duck on it!) I know it's technically a child's moisturiser but it's amazing for dry skin/eczema/cracked skin!
