I spent many enjoyable hours as a child playing card games with my grandparents. DD (7) has recently shown an interest and we've been playing gin rummy, patience, click patience and trumps etc. Not sure if these are the commonly known names btw, well for trumps anyway, or just what my gran and grandfather called them.
There was one that we called Newmarket which I loved but I'm bit hazy on how it was played and wondered if anyone could help me out from what I remember.
There were 3 cards - 'the horses' in the middle usually a Jack, Queen, king or ace which had the money on them (we played with 2ps etc)
If you got one of the horses out (so presuming the horses came from a second deck) you won the money on that card.
I think you laid the cards in order but I'm not sure how it started, I remember 'knocking' when you couldn't go so presume they were laid eg 2,3,4 hearts then if you had 5 hearts you could lay it on your turn. Not sure how the initial card was decided or how you swapped suit??
Also I'm pretty sure the prize money on each horse increased as the game went on but I'm not sure how or when it got laid.
I hope that makes sense, any help greatly appreciated
