Should I offer nanny a higher rate ?

Hello,

I've found a great nanny (or mother's helper) to care for my son after school. Though, she is only looking for £12.00 hr (we are based in London). I would like to offer her a higher rate. What do you all think ?

Maybe start at that rate and increase after 3 months?
Are you worried they will go elsewhere otherwise?

£12 net or gross? If it’s £12 net it could be up to £15/hour gross depending on her jobs/student loans.

£12.00 gross. She'll be doing a 3 month probation period.

I agree with the suggestion to pay it for 3 months then up it at the end of her probation if you're happy.

I’d also check that she’s not limited to the amount she can earn due to other benefits first. But, yes, I think she’s underpriced herself - you don’t want her being poached by another family!

I would tell her that if it works out after the 3 months, you will be increasing her rate.

Thank you ! Increase it by how much ?

well how much were you thinking initially?

oooyummy · 05/02/2020 14:21

I paid my last nanny 14.00 net which came to £14.50 gross. This nanny is not experienced- I would technically be her first client.

Maybe that same rate if you're happy with her after 3 months?
That's why she'll be charging less so don't feel guilty about paying what she's asking for.

I paid my nanny £12.50 gross as her first job. With pension etc. For 4 days 8-6 and 24 days annual leave. In Wandsworth- one 1yr old and dropping off the 3 yr old 8.30 - 6 at preschool...
