Is intermittent fasting just another way of reducing calories, or is there more to it than that?

That's it really. Does IF do anything special compared to normal calorie reduction? I'd rather not read a whole book to find out so thought I'd check here!

Yes. The weight loss is because you are reducing calories. Some people find it easier to stick to if it's just a couple days a week.
There may be some other benefits but ultimately it all comes down to eating less.

Isn't it also about blood sugar and insulin as well? Dr Michael mosley..

I'd be really wary of it if you are female. It affects female bodies differently, doesn't work as well and can lead to binge/starve eating disorders. IMO it's only safe if it entails stopping eating relatively early in the evening, say 5ish or 6.

@losenotloose
I'm no expert, only going by my personal experience but 'time restricted' eating makes a huge difference. It knocks out late night bingeing and helps regulate daily food intake and insulin requirements.

My husband has been on the intermittent fasting, recommended by Mosley, for several years now and successfully maintains his target weight. He lost 15kg in the process.
